It was 1986 when the Schafer family, with Harold ready to retire from business, donated all they’d created in Medora to establish the non-profit Theodore Roosevelt Medora Foundation.

In the years since, we’ve grown from a staff of a handful of folks to more than 90 full-time employees, with hundreds more seasonal workers and over 650 volunteers. We’ve awarded hundreds of thousands of dollars’ worth of scholarships to our staff. The Medora Musical has earned the attention of The New York Times. And we’ve earned a reputation as the #1 tourism and hospitality provider in North Dakota.

Summary/Objective

The Parks & Recreation Intern for Trails/Grounds/Attractions will perform various tasks at Point-to-Point Park, the TRMF amusement/recreation facility. Facilities include an 18-hole mini golf course, zip line, lazy river, pools, and trails. In addition to helping with the daily operations of the park, the Parks & Recreation Intern for Trails and Grounds will maintain existing trail systems. This entails keeping trails clean, refilling water stations, and adding improvements to trail areas. The Trails and Grounds intern will also keep the miniature golf course and other attractions in Point-to-Point Park free from weeds and debris.  

Supervisory Responsibilities

Assist supervisors and Management when needed. 

Duties/Responsibilities

Sells tickets and collects fees from customers. 

Sells and serves refreshments to customers. 

Maintains log with details for attendance, sales, receipts, reservations, or repair activities. 

Provides patrons with directions to rides, seats, or attractions. 

Create, oversee and implement programming for the park keeping within the needs and fit of the department  

Work with Park Manager to learn and assist with maintenance of pools, trails and other park attractions  

Assist Park Manager with oversight of scheduling for staff of Point-to-Point park  

Keep work vehicle clean, organized, and full of needed supplies.  

Perform routine safety checks on the company vehicle and follow fueling procedures.  

Refill and maintain water stations on Medora trails. 

Empty garbage cans and remove trash from Medora trails including debris after horse rides.  

Maintain trails including weeding, shoveling, widening trails. 

Perform cyclical cleaning projects on signs, benches, water stations.  

Help with trail updates including rock removal, creating culverts to channel water, fixing erosion zones, maintaining or replace signage. 

Assist guests with inquiries about the facilities, attractions, and rules and regulations.

Develop relationships and work with volunteers daily. 

Ensure that patrons follow rules and safety procedures.

Responsible for safety inspections and safe operating procedures.

Cleans equipment, rides, vehicles, booths, facilities, or grounds as needed.  

Performs other related duties as assigned. 

Requirements

Required Skills/Abilities

Must have a clean U.S. Driver’s License.

Must be able to obtain Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification (offered upon arrival if needed). 

Able to use landscaping equipment and tools including shovels, weedwhackers, backpacks for spraying weeds/watering, hand clippers.  

Must be willing to work 5:00am to 2:00pm shifts.  

Must be willing to work in other departments during inclement weather.  

Must be an initiative-taker, who can self-manage and prioritize projects.  

Excellent communication skills and people skills.

Ability to meet customers’ needs and provide necessary assistance.
