Department Overview
The Cardiology Clinic is a multidisciplinary practice with primary locations at the Center for Health and Healing and Beaverton Clinics with some programmatic aspects on Marquam Hill. The practice cares for adults. The clinic cares for patients 18 and older with cardiac diseases. The RN is a key member of the multi-disciplinary patient care team, which includes physicians, advance practice providers, medical assistants, schedulers, and other clinical and management support staff.
Function/Duties of Position
The OHSU Complex Valve Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the comprehensive specialized care for patients with advanced cardiac valvular disease in both the inpatient and outpatient settings. These patients are candidates for percutaneous valve intervention however may ultimately undergo this procedure, an open valve replacement or opt for a treatment regimen that optimizes medical management. In this position, the Coordinator will collaborate in the development, implementation and maintenance of all aspects of care for patients undergoing a percutaneous valve procedure in collaborations with the multi-disciplinary care team.
The Complex Valve Coordinator will utilize discretion and independent judgment to facilitate seamless care from referral to follow-up for patients who are candidates for percutaneous valve intervention. The Coordinator will apply the nursing process to the provision of care for this subset of patients; and together with the interdisciplinary team, establishes a plan of care that starts at initial interventional evaluation and follows the continuum of care, including pre-procedure, post-procedure and continued follow-up post valve implant.
The Coordinator will work with the patient and family to provide teaching, education and support throughout the valve replacement process. Additionally, the Coordinator supports the Complex Valve Program's internal staff education/competency plan and serves as a resource to all nursing departments for the care of this patient population. The Complex Valve Coordinator supports professional knowledge and healthcare management through effective interactions and communications with clinicians, healthcare administrators, community agencies and other professionals.
Required Qualifications
- BSN or higher degree in nursing.
- Minimum of 5 years of nursing experience with emphasis on inpatient hospital cardiovascular patient care and/or procedural care.
- Proficiency in rhythm interpretation.
- Must possess the intellectual capacity to independently address a variety of patient care needs. Requires the ability to consistently exercise discretion and multi-faceted critical thinking decision making - usually without the resources of a supervisor or manager.
- Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Must be experienced in Mircosoft Office applications and utilization of an electronic health record.
- Ability to triage and prioritize patient care issues using critical thinking skill
- Registered Nurse in the State of Oregon
- Registered Nurse in the State of Washington.
- BLS and Advanced Life Support Certifications.
Additional Details
Length of Orientation – Experienced Nurse
- External candidates: OHSU & Nursing New Employee Orientation (NEO) for about a week.
- Either Transition to Practice (TTP) Program Specialty Fellowship/Fellowship Learning Pathway or Orientation experience for 3 days-26 weeks depending on the care area. An employment service agreement may apply.
