Position Overview:

The Department of History and Geography at the University of Central Oklahoma seeks applications for the position of Full-Time, Temporary Lecturer in History for academic year 2025-2026. The courseload for this position is 5/5, 15 credit hours per semester. The successful candidate will primarily support the department’s core US history survey offerings.

Teaches, advises, and mentors students, evaluates student performance and maintains department and student records in accordance with university policies. Adheres to the educational philosophy of the university. Works collaboratively with colleagues and professional peers. Participates in university meetings that relate specifically to faculty. Serves on department, college, and university committees as requested. Prepares departmental reports as requested. Engages in teaching, service, and scholarly and/or creative activities as defined by the tenure and promotion policy in the UCO Employee and Faculty Handbook. The general schedule for this temporary position is 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, and a salary range commensurate with experience and credentials.

College/Department Overview:

The Department of History and Geography includes 16 full-time faculty members and offers undergraduate degree programs in history, geography, history education, and museum studies, as well as graduate programs in history and museum studies. Experience Required:

Teaching, research, departmental/school, and university service are expected. An earned MA or PhD in history or related field by a regionally accredited or internationally recognized institution is required. The successful candidate will possess excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills, along with a commitment to transformative education.

Experience Preferred:

Preference will be given to candidates with at least two years of college-level teaching experience.
