Youth Cannabis Intervention Intern

You believe that young people are inherently knowledgeable and capable of anything, and that communities have a right to live in environments that promote health. You have experience or interest in working with youth and want to empower them to reduce underage drug use and related health disparities. You work well on your own but enjoy being part of a supportive team with a common mission.

Reports to: Tobacco Prevention Coordinator

Hours: 6-8 hours per week, $21/hour, through June 2024

Anticipated start date: May 1, 2023

Location: Hybrid; half-time in-person in Marin County; applicants must be able to participate in in-person community events.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Review literature, collect community-based data, provide documentation on the following: current research studies on teen cannabis use and cessation, existing local cannabis cessation resources and programs, effective approaches to youth cannabis cessation.
• Help develop and administer a survey with youth for youth in Marin middle and/or high schools; analyze and summarize findings.
• Assist with interviews with AOD providers, school administrators, and mental health providers.
• Attend relevant trainings and remain up to date on cannabis cessation resources.
• Develop cannabis cessation programs for Marin high schools.
• Develop and maintain positive relationships with stakeholders, including other service providers, community leaders, client groups, government and civic organizations and coalitions.

Requirements

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate will have a mix of the following experiences and background:

• Current undergraduate student in related area of study such as education/public policy/public health or two years of community-based experience, emphasis on community health or public policy preferred.
• Experience working with middle and/or high-school-aged youth.
• Experience working with policy-makers and community stakeholders; experience in public health highly desirable.
• Cultural humility and experience working with diverse communities; ability to be flexible and positive working with people and orgs with different backgrounds and viewpoints.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills, confidence in public speaking, and ability to balance competing demands.
• Spanish-English bilingual preferred.
