Director of Student Health

• $113,000+ Annual, Dependent on Experience, Exempt

Purpose of Position

Direct a comprehensive medical clinic that provides healthcare to UND students. The Director assumes overall responsibility for the operation of Student Health Services, the quality of care provided by all members of the staff, and the effective functioning of Student Health Services. Student Health Services is within the unit of Student Affairs and supports the academic mission of the University.

The Director is also responsible for:

• Establishing priorities and demonstrating initiative, creativity, and flexibility as it relates to the department, the division, and campus well-being related efforts,
• Exercising discretion and independent judgement,
• Leading others,
• Analyzing operations, budgeting, and forecasting data and information for financial considerations,
• Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with a wide range of groups and individuals, including students, staff, administration, and the public, and
• Responding empathically to students and handling sensitive student health information in a confidential and professional manner at all times.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Manage and provide leadership for the department
  • Develop long range strategic plan indicative of progressive health care delivery and campus needs.
  • Monitor trends in student health and advise the department, supervisors, and campus accordingly.
  • Manage facility and coordinate updates and improvements to services offered at Student Health Services.
  • Coordinate updates and improvements to business practices of Student Health Services.
  • Identify and implement new services as determined appropriate by the director and supervisor for students using Student Health Services.
  • Manage overall student health services finances, including oversight of the budget, financial modeling, rate setting, and needed adjustments.
  • Set the rate structure for clinic services and update the rates on an established basis.
  • Analyze clinic data to aid in decision making. This includes, but is not limited to, analyzing usage rates, trends, reimbursement information, and other care and financial measures.
  • Assess and evaluate programmatic, staffing, and facility needs of each department and assess requirements for related resources in light of goals, objectives, and budgetary/fiscal oversight 
• Leadership & supervision of professional staff
  • Ensure operational staffing levels and supervision of clinic functions.
  • Supervise Medical Director, Associate Director, Business Office and Front Desk Staff (6 staff in total), including goal-setting and performance appraisals.
  • Provide overall leadership and support for all employees in the department.
  • Manage Human Resource functions to align with NDUS and University procedures.
  • Responsible for hiring of business office staff and related orientation.
  • Support continuing education and professional development opportunities
• Campus Representation
  • Advise student group responsible for providing feedback on health related items concerning students.
  • Nurture collaboration and relationships with health providers at UND and the local community, state and local Departments of Health.
  • Attend Directors, Student Affairs Leadership Council, and UND meetings effectively representing Student Health Services. 
  • Serve as Joint Commander in UND Pandemic Plan execution. Reviews and revises, with the UND Safety Office, the UND Pandemic Plan.
  • Serve as member of applicable campus student health organizations. For example serving as a member of the North Central College Health Association (NCCHA) and American College Health Association (ACHA).
  • Coordinate with partners to identify and work to remove health related barriers that may impede student success.
• Department Compliance
  • Assure clinic is in compliance with HIPAA and FERPA guidelines.
  • Responsible for ongoing accreditation by Accreditation Associate for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC).
  • Support quality improvement and implementation of quality standards.
  • Enforce campus and SHS policy and procedures and licensing requirements for professional staff.
