WHAT YOU WILL DO

As the Offroad Vertical Geospatial Subject Matter Expert (SME), you will be responsible for driving and supporting the offroad vertical content needs throughout the Geospatial team and WHERE domain. You will be accountable for leading content discussions, guiding the development of solutions and proposals, steering collaboration with teammates across the larger organization, and driving the delivery of geospatial content projects specific to motorized road and trails, motorized vehicle use, and other offroad activities. You will collaborate with developers, designers, and product managers on a fast-paced and performant team that is designed to create a high-quality product that delights our users. This role lives within the Where domain which is responsible for all cartography, data processing, and sourcing for onX. This role will also be part of a larger team of Geospatial Subject Matter Experts, each of which supports one of the verticals within the onX ecosystem.

As an onX Offroad Vertical Geospatial Subject Matter Expert (SME), your essential job duties and responsibilities will look like: 

  • Serve as the primary Geospatial expert on the offroad vertical team, providing guidance, understanding customer data problems, and being the voice on Geospatial-related technical solutions specific to motorized road and trails, motorized vehicle use, and other offroad activities.
  • Create and achieve, in partnership with the sponsor, clear and attainable project objectives that align with stakeholder expectations and business goals
  • Collaborate with Where team developers to ensure that Geospatial functionality is implemented according to best practices and optimized for performance for offroad activities.
  • Create, contribute, and utilize version control software (GIT) to collaborate with the Geospatial team.
  • Create documentation and white paper/knowledge base training documents (OG)
  • Initiate the project with the charter, negotiate for project resources, and execute a project kickoff
  • Provide recommendations for procedural improvements
  • Analyze data, create dashboards, and monitor data health metrics to provide insights that inform business decisions related to offroad users and their activities.
  • Provide Geospatial data editing, conflation and Quality Control specific to motorized road and trails, motorized vehicle use, and other offroad activities.
  • Communicate complex Geospatial concepts related to offroad activities to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Research & evaluate Geospatial data sources related to offroad activities and make recommendations for new data sources or improvements to existing sources.
  • Conduct research and stay up-to-date with industry trends and best practices related to offroad activities.
  • Collaborate with product personnel and executives to identify functional project and content requirements and priorities.
  • Provide and lead strategic advice and support to the vertical team and surrounding content initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with external partners and vendors to ensure high-quality Geospatial data sources and solutions related to offroad activities.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING

  • Bachelor's degree in Geospatial Science, Geography, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in the Geospatial industry
  • Expert in Geospatial software such as QGIS.
  • Experience with Geospatial databases and data analysis tools such as PostGIS.
  • Experience in managing projects, developing project plans, and estimating timelines
  • Self-starter with excellent problem-solving and analytical skills with minimal supervision.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain complex Geospatial concepts related to offroad activities to non-technical stakeholders.
