Job Summary:

The Knollmann lab is recruiting a lab manager to oversee and participate in research activities supporting multiple projects. The job will involve routine duties such as ordering and maintaining lab supplies, supporting various aspects of research projects of other lab members, as needed, and maintaining the animal colonies. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in the biological sciences or related degree, and at least 5 years of relevant bench experience with mouse husbandry and surgery, cell culture, molecular biological techniques such as plasmid preparation, site-directed mutagenesis, and sub-cloning. The candidate must be detail oriented, have strong written and verbal communication skills and be proficient with Excel. The candidate must also exhibit the highest levels of professionalism, honesty, and integrity and get along well with co-workers.

Department Summary:

The mission of the Division of Clinical Pharmacology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) is to understand the mechanisms of drug action in humans in order to improve therapeutics. One of the oldest and largest divisions of its kind, our division bridges basic and clinical sciences through translational research and robust training in clinical pharmacology.
Through research, the division attempts to understand how basic molecular, biochemical and cellular processes are altered in various pathological conditions, and seeks to identify novel therapeutic interventions for human diseases.

• Faculty publish extensively, with their work appearing in prestigious journals,
including Nature, the New England Journal of Medicine, Proceedings of the
National Academy of Sciences and the Journal of Clinical Investigation
• In addition to conducting state-of-the-art research, faculty lead many
institutional and national efforts to train clinical and translational
investigators, and to support infrastructure for translational research

In recognition of their contributions, six faculty have been elected to the Associate of American Physicians.

The division’s dynamic fellowship programs are designed to rigorously train individuals interested in pursuing careers in clinical pharmacology. With more than 27 fellows in the program, Vanderbilt ranks as a leader in the training of clinical pharmacologists for academia, industry and government. Since its founding in 1963, the division has trained over 350 fellows, which is more than any other clinical pharmacology program in the world.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Initiate changes or develop new policies, procedures and/or methods.
• Perform test experiment procedures relating to laboratory activities.
• Indirect budgetary responsibility depending on laboratory, may prepare the budget for approval by administration and monitor expenditures against the budget.
• Evaluate quality assurance standards, programs and procedures within the unit/laboratory and ensure effective instrument/equipment use and quality control of laboratory.
• Ensure accuracy and reliability of tests/experiments.
• Develop new and modify existing methodology/protocols.
• Perform, interpret and evaluate research
• Serve as a resource to others and assist in performing and interpreting technical studies.
• May prepare and present lectures or laboratory exercises; and coordinate guest lecturers
