What you’ll do

Become part of an iconic brand that is set to revolutionize the all-electric pick-up truck & rugged SUV marketplace by achieving the following:

  • CAD Design:
    • Develop detailed 2D and 3D CAD models of automotive components, assemblies, and systems using software such as AutoCAD, CATIA, SolidWorks, or similar tools.
    • Collaborate with engineering teams to understand design requirements and specifications.
    • Create and modify CAD designs based on engineering sketches, technical drawings, and design inputs.
    • Ensure designs comply with automotive industry standards, tolerances, and manufacturing processes.
    • Optimize CAD designs for functionality, performance, and manufacturability.
  • Technical Support:
    • Provide technical support and guidance to engineering teams regarding CAD software tools, best practices, and methodologies.
    • Assist in troubleshooting CAD-related issues and resolving design challenges.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including design, engineering, and manufacturing, to address technical concerns and ensure project success.
  • Quality Assurance:
    • Conduct thorough reviews and evaluations of CAD designs to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with project requirements.
    • Perform design analysis, including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), Gap & Flush and design for manufacturability (DFM).
    • Identify and implement improvements to CAD processes, standards, and workflows to enhance efficiency and quality.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
    • Prepare and maintain detailed documentation, including CAD models, drawings, and design specifications.
    • Generate reports on CAD design progress, issues, and recommendations for improvement.
    • Document design changes, revisions, and version control in accordance with established procedures.
  • Training and Development:
    • Provide training and mentorship to junior CAD technicians and engineers.
    • Stay updated on the latest CAD software tools, techniques, and trends.
    • Participate in professional development activities to enhance skills and knowledge in automotive design and CAD technologies.
  • Develop and maintain Best Practices: Design Standards, Test Procedures, Technical Specifications, etc.
  • Be a champion of 1st principles design methodology in the body systems and across the entire vehicle.

Location & Travel Expectations: The responsibilities of this role require attendance at in-person meetings and events regularly. This role will be based out of the Scout Motors location in Novi, MI. Applicants should expect that the role will require the ability to convene with Scout colleagues in person and travel to participate in events on behalf of the company from time to time.

  • Minimum of Bachelor's degree with 8+ yrs. of experience in Mechanical/Aerospace/Automotive engineering; Master's degree with 6+ yrs. of experience preferred
