<h2>About the job</h2> <p>Red Hat is rethinking how the automobile industry updates software in cars. Rather than adding more computing power to an automobile, let’s add wheels to a computer that we know how to ship.</p> <p>The Red Hat Engineering team is looking for an Automotive Functional Safety Specialist to join us. In this role, you’ll be coordinating work with other engineers, architects, product managers, scrum masters, and community members to create Red Hat’s first ever offering of Linux in cars.  This is a new venture with a lot to discover. As an Automotive Functional Safety Specialist, you will be a member of an engineering team that embraces psychological safety, enabling every team member to contribute to the joint success. The team will be focusing on the engineering activities underpinning functional safety certification. Your knowledge and experience conducting automotive functional safety certification would be extremely valuable.</p> <p> </p> <p>You can find more information about the technology here:</p> <p>Automotive SIG</p> <p>CentOS Automotive SIG Announces New AutoSD Distro</p> <h2>What you will do</h2> <ul> <li>Collaborate with a team to build the platform for Red Hat’s first ever offering of Linux in cars</li> <li>Create and adapt processes to perform internal functional safety audits and assessments</li> <li>Conduct assessments to judge whether the key work products provide sufficient and convincing evidence of their contribution to the achievement of functional safety</li> <li>Lead the development of internal functional safety processes</li> <li>Conduct reviews to monitor the execution of the processes required for functional safety</li> <li>Support the institution and maintenance of a quality management system for the Red Hat In-Vehicle Operating System</li> <li>Perform trainings against the international standards used as reference for functional safety and for Red Hat Automotive products</li> <li>Coach and mentor junior engineers to increase functional safety competency</li> <li>Support the engineering teams for the functional safety qualification activities</li> <li>Engage with upstream, open source, and safety communities</li> <li>Bring your experience with automotive functional safety to discussions about software development and release processes</li> </ul> <h2>What you will bring</h2> <ul> <li>Previous experience conducting or assessing  against international safety-related standards, e.g. ISO26262 (preferred) certification or other (IEC 61508, DO-178C)</li> <li>Previous experience conducting or assessing against international quality-standards for the automotive sector, e.g. IATF 16949, ISO / IEC 33000, CMMI, Automotive SPICE</li> <li>Experience with agile software development process, focused on short development cycles with demonstrable progress, and continuous planning with a team of peers</li> <li>Solid written and verbal communication skills in English</li> <li>Familiarity with Linux; experience modifying and rebuilding Linux kernels</li> </ul> <p> </p> <p><strong>The following are considered a plus:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Involvement in open source communities and understanding of how open source and free software communities work</li> <li>Experience working as an RPM package maintainer</li> <li>Experience with continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD)</li> <li>Certified competence in functional safety</li> <li>Certified competence  in Quality Management</li> </ul>
