Position Overview

The Division of Developmental Disabilities is seeking to hire a Switchboard Operator I for the Murray Developmental Center located in Centralia, Illinois to perform routine and repetitive work in operating a PBX switchboard, primarily involving responsibility for accuracy and speed in placing and answering calls. Performs simple clerical work and maintains simple records involved in incoming and outgoing calls.

Essential Functions

• Performs routine and repetitive work in operating a PBX switchboard, primarily involving responsibility for accuracy and speed in placing and answering calls.

• Receives messages for department heads when they cannot be reached.

• Directs visitors, parents, and salespersons to the proper departments.

• Receives and sends messages on facility base radio to security mobile units and handsets for Engineer’s errand car mobile unit.

• Performs simple clerical work.

• Receives and sorts facility mail.

• Performs other duties as assigned or required which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
