Position Description:

Executive Vice President for Finance and Administration and Chief Financial Officer (EVPFA/CFO)

The University of Louisville (UofL) seeks a strategic and collaborative leader to serve as its next Executive Vice President for Finance and Administration and Chief Financial Officer (EVPFA/CFO).

Founded in 1798 as one of the nation's first city-owned public universities, the University of Louisville is a vital ecosystem that creates thriving futures for students, the community, and society. As one of only 84 universities in the U.S. to earn recognition by the Carnegie Foundation as both a Research 1 and a Community Engaged university, UofL is uniquely positioned to impact lives in areas of student success and research and innovation, while their dynamic connection with the local and global communities provides unparalleled opportunities for both students and citizens.

Spreading across three campuses, UofL is a state-supported research university that is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC). With an enrollment of over 24,000 students, its academic programs attract students from every state in the U.S. and countries all over the world. UofL offers graduate, professional, baccalaureate, and associate degrees, as well as certificates in over 200 fields of study. UofL is especially well-known for excellence in teaching, research, and service to the Louisville community and the advancement of educational opportunities for its citizens. With more than 170,000 alumni residing in the U.S. and around the world, UofL's reach extends far beyond the region in which it resides.

UofL Health, based in Louisville, Kentucky, represents a visionary integration of healthcare prowess. Born from the reorganization of KentuckyOne Health and its acquisition by the University of Louisville in 2019, this regional academic health system is a beacon of innovation and care. Affiliated with the University of Louisville School of Medicine, UofL Health is committed to providing patients with access to the most advanced care available. This includes clinical trials, collaboration on research, and the development of new technologies to both save and improve lives. With more than 14,000 team members - physicians, surgeons, nurses, pharmacists, and other highly skilled health care professionals - UofL Health is focused on one mission: to transform the health of communities they serve through compassionate, innovative, patient-centered care.

The incoming Executive Vice President for Finance and Administration and Chief Financial Officer will report directly to President Gerry Bradley, who began his tenure on March 26, 2025. The EVPFA/CFO leads a large, diverse team of 500 staff members and helps manage UofL's $1.8 billion operational budget. The EVPFA/CFO oversees and strengthens the University's financial units in order to execute the University's strategic plan, support innovation, and fulfill the mission of the University. The EVPFA/CFO communicates financial goals and opportunities to the University community. It has primary responsibility for financial planning and reporting, cash management, operating and capital budgets, accounting services, debt management and endowment, payroll, and treasury services. The EVPFA/CFO will serve as a strategic partner to the President, Board, and senior leadership while also closely collaborating with UofL Health and the School of Medicine.

The University of Louisville seeks a savvy financial leader with significant fiscal and administrative experience in complex academic settings, strong financial management skills, familiarity with research universities, and collaborative problem-solving abilities. The next EVPFA/CFO should bring exceptional communication skills and have a strong track record of leading and managing teams effectively. A master's degree and 10 or more years of relevant experience are required. Candidates are strongly preferred to have experience in a public higher education institution with medical and research operations.
