Lucid is seeking a full-time Tax Director to join the Global Finance and Accounting teams based in Newark, California (our Global HQ). This position will focus on international US taxation of a US-based multinational enterprise, including tax provision and international US income tax return compliance. The ideal candidate is an individual that is detail oriented and demonstrate hands on experience with deep tax technical knowledge in US outbound international taxation and familiar with ASC 740 tax reporting.
Success in this role is dependent on application of technical tax expertise gained through Big 4 or Law firm tax advisory services and industry experience, demonstrates strong leadership, project management, effective 360 degree communication, organization/people development, hands-on approach, ability to manage change and drive process improvements, and strong strategic understanding plus tactical execution and ability to perform in a high growth business environment while gaining the respect and trust of business partners.
This position is an individual contributor role reporting to the Global Head of Tax.

The Role:

  • Provide exemplar leadership and business acumen as a tone-setting senior member of the tax leadership team.
  • Drive initiatives to develop, refine and implement the Company's global tax strategy, including FDII and low-taxed offshore earnings.
  • Manage planning and reporting of US international taxation including source of income, FDII, BEAT, GILTI, FTC, Subpart F income, E&P, Foreign Branch rules and Sec 861 allocations.
  • Review the international portions of the Company’s U.S. tax return, including technical analysis and discussion of issues.
  • Manage the quarterly preparation of US international tax provisions for financial statement reporting and related disclosures and responding to questions and inquiries from the financial statement auditors.
  • Research relevant international tax matters, including staying update to date with new proposed and final regulations, tax law updates, and providing guidance for tax compliance and tax accounting.
  • Participate in value chain analysis and functional reviews to update and maintain proper arm’s length arrangements for transfer pricing and reviewing and documenting related positions.
  • Document tax positions or research in memos or workpapers to support tax accounting positions or return filing positions.
  • Support as needed the international aspects of acquisition accounting and integration.
  • Lead withholding tax requests and determining the proper withholding tax implications of transactions.
  • Liaise, manage, and train tax team members in foreign locations.
  • Conduct special tax projects as needed.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks appropriately, execute with accuracy, meet deadlines, and recognize when to escalate issues.
  • Provide outstanding client service to the finance department and business through timely and accurate responses. 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting required.
  • Masters in Tax or LLM, required from an accredited university.
  • CPA is preferred.
  • Minimum of 12 years of US corporate tax experience.
  • A combination of Big Four tax consulting and multi-national technology enterprise with a minimum of 7 years of experience in US international taxation and 7 years advisory in public accounting or legal firm services.
  • Must have a minimum of 3 years of experience leading a multinational enterprise’s internal international tax function.
  • Solid technical knowledge and demonstrated hands on experience with tax issues of large multinational high-tech companies.
  • Proven ability to understand and research complex tax issues and document in memorandum to files and yet communicate to senior executives in a crisp, direct communication style.
