Job Title: Skyfari Operator
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Hours: Seasonal (flexible schedule of 24 hours or more per week including weekends and holidays) from early March to early November.
Pay Rate: $15.50/hour
Summary:
Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium is seeking Skyfari Operators to conduct safe and enjoyable rides for Zoo guests on Omaha Zoo’s Skyfari attraction while providing excellent customer service skills. Skyfari Operators help guests by answering routine questions, greeting visitors, and following all Zoo policies. Skyfari Operators focus specifically on the daily operation of the attraction including but not limited to opening the ride, safety checks, sorting guests, loading guests, unloading guests, and operating the Skyfari operating panel. This position reports directly to the Guest Services Supervisor team.
Duties and Responsibilities (include but not limited to):
- Adhere and comply with the Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium Employee Handbook.
- Safely operate the Skyfari in all weather conditions.
- Be able to assist guests at ticketing kiosks by answering questions and completing transactions.
- Provide general information about prices, location of specific attractions, and safety rules.
- Perform safety checks at the beginning of the day, end of day, and after any extended Skyfari shutdowns.
- Assist with chair assembly in Spring and chair detachment in the fall.
- Ensure guest safety on the Skyfari and areas surrounding the Skyfari.
- Maintain a clean and professional appearance of ride locations and the surrounding areas.
Minimum Requirements:
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Must pass drug screening and background check.
- Must be available to work at least 24 hours each week during the summer season.
- Must be available to work weekends and holidays during the summer season.
- Evening shift opportunities may be available.
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
- Must have an outgoing and engaging personality.
Experience:
- Prior guest services experience preferred but not required.
- Bilingual language skills a plus.
Working Environment and Physical Effort:
- Will sometimes work extended/odd hours including weekends and holidays.
- May have the opportunity to work some evening events.
- May be able to request limited days off annually based on Zoo and Departmental policies.
- Must be able to walk long distances across our Zoo.
- Work is done in an outdoor setting.
- Must be able to stand, sit, kneel, bend, twist, reach above head, and climb for extended periods of time.
- Will lift, push, pull, and/or move up to 15 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds using safe and proper lifting methods.
- Will work outdoors in all weather conditions, including heat, rain, and snow.
