Job Title:  Machine Tech Operator                                            Job Grade:  7A

FLSA Status:  Nonexempt                                                            Skill Level:  2

Position reports to:  Maintenance Supervisor                                          

Location:  Wadesboro Hatchery                                                              

Schedule:  Responsibilities may occasionally require an adjusted work schedule. Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, including holidays beginning at 4:45AM until job is complete. Typically these positions generally average 40 hours a week. Hours are subject to change depending on needs of the hatchery.

                       

Position Summary:

This position is responsible for the cleaning, storage, reassembling, testing, and maintenance of hatchery processing machinery. Train operators on proper usage of equipment during processing, making required adjustments; also performs preventive maintenance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilties

  • Prepare robots and hatchery processing machinery and vaccines each morning for the day. (10%)
  • Perform preventive maintenance checks daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly. (10%)
  • Troubleshoot robots and make repairs and adjustments as needed. (10%)
  • Monitor chicks for uniformity of beak trim and vaccination. (10%)
  • Operate robots performing beak trim and vaccination. (40%)
  • Consult with roboters if there is a problem with the birds they have serviced. (10%)
  • Other duties, responsibilities and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice such as:  operating a high pressure or water hose, grade and toe trim chicks, operate box strapper, maintain clean and organized work area. (10%)

Biosecurity/Animal Welfare Requirements/Safety Requirements:

  • The jobsite is a biosecure environment which requires showering, changing clothing and footwear before entering the facility. Appropriate clothing and footwear are provided by the Company. No jewelry may be worn on the jobsite except for medical ID jewelry. Must be willing to sign an agreement to avoid any avian species (chickens, ducks, birds, etc.). Must be willing to sign and abide by the Company Biosecurity and Company Animal Welfare Guidelines. Will be trained to recognize and comply with all safety procedures.  

Minimum Requirements:

  • Education:  Must be able to read, write and practice simple math skills.
  • Experience:  Six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • TSA:  Must agree to submit to a Security Threat Assessment.   

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • The successful candidate(s) must be willing and able to perform the physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Physical:  Must use safe lifting techniques. Must regularly push or pull stacks of chick boxes weighing up to 125 lbs. Must lift chick boxes weighing up to 30 lbs. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand majority of shift (concrete floor); walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop; bend over; talk or hear.
