Job Description

The Procurement Manager-Direct Materials is a pivotal member of Purchasing, supporting the team’s tactical and strategic activities as it relates to processing our customers’ orders. The role’s primary responsibilities includes supporting Production Control Managers in their purchase of paint, films, chemicals and packaging supplies.  This position directly manages paint blending operations in multiple plant facilities, often remotely, and will be responsible for employee development and growth.  In addition, the individual in this position must be capable of obtaining and analyzing historic data to provide guidance on planning and material procurement activities to maintain inventory plans in support of both turn objectives and customer OTD deliveries.

Additionally, the Procurement Manager-Direct Materials must be comfortable with being in high demand and handling not only ‘core’ responsibilities but supporting other team tasks as they arise. She/he must be able to lead projects with minimal supervision while also playing a support role on other projects when needed. The successful candidate must be analytical and detail-oriented, yet also have a sense of vision and possibilities for this role.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the development and implementation of a materials inventory planning and management system with the goal of improving inventory turns and customer service.
• Work with Production Control Managers to monitor and manage paint inventory levels at each facility and adjust inventory levels with customer seasonality.
• Direct centralized paint purchasing processes and management
• Identify opportunities to improve the tracking, management and selection criteria for packaging supplies along with supportive processing equipment.
• Develop material management analytical tools to help identify opportunities to improve OTD for customers, inventory turns and reduce risk of obsolescence.
• Manage supplier bidding process including writing specifications, preparing bid forms and handling bidding process, analyzes bid results and makes recommendations.
• As needed, work with suppliers to implement price increases when they occur and coordinate those activities with quoting to ensure accurate and smooth implementation.
• As needed, work with suppliers and Production Control Managers on any supplier material transition or obsolescence of inventory.
• Meet with staff and vendors to discuss product, performance, delivery and service issues along with developing corrective actions.
• Assist, when needed, in resolving problems and issues arising from purchase of services, materials and supporting equipment.
• When directed, attend meetings, trade shows, and conferences to learn about new industry trends and make contacts with suppliers
• Direct management of the paint blend systems at multiple facilities

Education & Experience

·  Bachelor degree or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
·  Minimum of 5 years’ experience in material and inventory management preferred
·  Customer service experience a plus
