Job Summary:

The instructional designer provides instructional strategy and design expertise, gained from experience working in post-secondary education, for the development and support of online courses and programs yet to be roll-out as well as existing online courses and programs slated to be refreshed.  This position reports directly to the Director of Online Programs.

  • Once assigned, actively takes responsibility and manages online course/projects development from inception to completion.
  • Collaborates with faculty, providing instructional design and strategy options that fit their approach to teaching.
  • Consults with individuals or groups of faculty on optimal and effective uses of multimedia for their online instruction.
  • Designs and supervises production of instructional materials and learning objects in a variety of formats, including print, graphics, audio, video, and animation technologies, to engage participants and support online coursework.
  • Provides production assistance, technical support/training to faculty throughout the online course development process to its deployment.
  • Provides review, evaluation, and reporting metrics of designed online courses in order to evaluate the effectiveness of the course design.
  • Serves on intradepartmental committees to explore issues related to teaching and learning online.
  • Attends appropriate conferences and seminars to maintain an up-to-date knowledge base of new instructional technologies/software and pedagogical techniques.
  • Presents on topics related to online learning, related technology, and course design at state, regional, or national meetings.
  • Performs other duties as requested.

Salary Range: $72,000 - $82,000

Qualifications

Qualification Standards:

  • Working knowledge of and facility with models and concepts of or related to instructional design e.g., ADDIE model, reverse design, universal design, etc.
  • Experience collaborating with faculty in a consultative approach as an instructional design resource.                                                                                           
  • Experience designing instruction that adheres to a constructivist learner-centered perspective resulting in a portfolio of work beyond a summative assessment approach.
  • Working knowledge of current computing applications (e.g., Google Docs, Microsoft Office, EdPuzzle, Snagit, Camtasia, etc.), online authentication (Honorlock, etc.), networking and communications systems (Zoom, Google Meet, etc.), learning management systems (e.g., Blackboard, etc.), and content producer plug-ins (Pearson, etc.)
