Summary

The Mechanic works independently and with other plant personnel to perform preventative, predictive and routine maintenance tasks. This role includes troubleshooting issues, repairing failures of production and facilities equipment, and ensuring maximum equipment efficiency and effectiveness. This person provides direction for effective execution of maintenance activity on all machinery and equipment throughout the plant and office facilities. The Maintenance Mechanic is also responsible for the optimum utilization of available resources such as manpower, equipment, time, etc. This person must be responsible for decisions, actions and failures; must establish clear responsibilities and processes for monitoring work and measuring results. In addition, the maintenance mechanic must partner with others to get work done and work cooperatively with others across the organization to achieve shared objectives.

There are two plant facilities that make up the Moses Lake Production Campus. The selected candidate for this role will begin their training at one of these facilities and then will be assigned to one of the two locations after training is complete.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain food processing equipment (e.g., mixers, conveyors, packaging machines) to support safe and efficient production.
  • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on machinery to minimize downtime and ensure consistent operation.

  • Troubleshoot mechanical issues quickly and effectively to avoid production delays.

  • Calibrate and adjust equipment settings to ensure compliance with food safety and product quality standards.

  • Follow GMPs (Good Manufacturing Practices) and food safety regulations, including HACCP and sanitation protocols.

  • Monitor and document equipment performance and maintenance activities to support audits and compliance.

  • Collaborate with production and quality assurance teams to support smooth operations and resolve equipment-related concerns.

  • Ensure proper sanitation and cleaning procedures for machinery before and after shifts or product changeovers.

  • Participate in equipment upgrades and installations, providing mechanical expertise and support.

  • Maintain a safe work environment, adhering to all safety policies, procedures, and lockout/tagout protocols.

Typical Education

High school diploma or general education degree (GED)

Relevant Experience

3+ years related experience and/or training

Other Information

Experience with hydraulics, pneumatics, and mechanics; Basic electrical repair in an industrial/manufacturing environment; Ability to read and interpret documents and drawings and write detailed repair reports; Ability to analyze and make decisions; Ability to diagram equipment control problems; Strong verbal and written English communication skills; Good organizational and planning skills.

 

Preferred: Experience with 480-volt power and 24 control voltages to 120 volt electrical troubleshooting; Program and trouble shoot Allen Bradley SLC500 and MicroLogix series. Must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactory, and represent the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Physical Requirements: Lift and move heavy equipment; Climb ladders and work in high, precarious places.

 

Working Environment: May be exposed to wet or humid conditions; May be exposed to outdoor weather conditions; May be exposed to high noise environments; May be exposed to chemicals used in the process; Could be in temperatures of -5 degrees.
