The Role at a Glance
This position will provide subject matter expertise and direction on complex projects/initiatives for Lincoln’s Retail, Workplace Solutions, and Corporate business lines including overseeing the selection, prioritization, and governance of IT initiatives to ensure alignment with the organization’s strategic objectives and maximization of business value. This role provides transparency into the IT investment portfolio, balances demand with capacity, and partners closely with business and technology stakeholders to drive outcome-focused delivery.
What you'll be doing
- Facilitates portfolio communications with sponsors and other leaders/contributors.
- Serves as a subject matter expert to team members and applicable internal/external stakeholders on portfolio management best practice standards, templates and practices.
- Leads the evaluation and prioritization of projects, programs, and products within their assigned IT portfolio.
- Oversees the portfolio governance processes, including quarterly portfolio reviews, IT portfolio reviews, stage gates and investment reviews.
- Drives the adoption of best practices in portfolio management, including business case evaluation.
- Contributes to the development and maintenance of the IT portfolio management framework, ensuring alignment with enterprise strategy and objectives.
- Ensures accurate tracking and reporting on actual vs. forecasted spend, updated ROI, and total cost of ownership across the portfolio.
- Supports annual and rolling planning cycles, including capital and operational expenditure planning.
- Monitors portfolio performance and gather regular updates on status, risks, issues, dependencies, and value realization.
- Ensures appropriate reporting and transparency to executive stakeholders through dashboards and scorecards.
- Works with project and program managers to ensure alignment with scope, timelines, and strategic goals.
- Partners with business units, enterprise architecture, and IT leadership to align portfolios with organizational priorities.
- Acts as an advisor and uses influence skills to ensure that portfolio decisions reflect evolving business needs and achieve desired business outcomes.
- Facilitates communication across departments to ensure shared understanding and buy-in.
- Assesses current and projected resource capacity to determine feasibility of portfolio execution.
- Collaborates with resource managers to optimize workforce planning and talent allocation.
- Manages intake processes and demand shaping in coordination with business partners and delivery teams.
- Identifies portfolio-level risks and develops mitigation plans.
- Ensures that IT portfolio activities comply with relevant policies, regulations, and standards.
- Works with information security and legal teams to ensure risk-aware portfolio decisions.
- Maintains knowledge on current and emerging developments/trends, assesses the impact, and collaborates with senior management to incorporate new trends and developments in current and future solutions.
What we’re looking for
Must Haves
• 4 Year/Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience (4 years of experience in lieu of Bachelor's)
• 5 – 7+ Years experience in IT program/portfolio management, PMO leadership, or IT strategy
