The Sentinel program has an exciting opportunity for a Principal Human Factors Engineer (HFE) - Systems Engineer to join the team in Huntsville, Alabama supporting activities including use case development, requirements definition / allocation, functional decomposition, interface definition, verification & validation, and requirements traceability.


Specific duties to include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Collaborate with program IPT counterparts to develop supporting systems engineering and design artifacts.
  • Work with both technical teams and stakeholders to develop and mature architecture content of large programs design.
  • Help develop and incorporate the appropriate requirements for the system and ensure that they are properly represented in the model.
  • Develop systems architecture using Cameo Enterprise Architecture (behavioral, structural, analytical).
  • Contribute to system requirements development, management, and analysis.
  • Develop unifying model techniques, procedures, and processes (for model development, tool integration)


Human Factors (HF) specializations include software (UX, human computer interaction), hardware (human factors, anthropometry), HF computer modeling (NX/Jack, IMPRINT), or design for maintainability (prior experience as a maintainer or experience working in the area).
The selected candidate’s job responsibilities include design documentation including interface specifications; hardware and software interface design/development support; analyses and collaboration to facilitate equipment selection, design and arrangement; user group collaboration and working groups; compliance with specified sections of MIL-STD-1472G; collaboration across IPTs; and coordination with the customer and user community.


Typical Duties:

  • Author/support the development of requirements that are compliant with Human Factors best practices and specified sections of MIL-STD-1472G
  • Human Factors Analyses (including, but not limited to: task analyses, predictive workload analyses, interface prototyping and analysis, and design-for-maintainability (DFM) analysis)
  • Perform functional analysis, timeline analysis, detailed trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications
  • Conduct computer-based (NX) and empirical accessibility assessments
  • Author/support the program documentation of the HFE processes and products in a format consistent with US Military Data Item Descriptions (e.g. Human Engineering Program Plan, Human Engineering Design Approach Document – Operator, Human Engineering Design Approach Document – Maintainer, Human Engineering Test Plan, Human Engineering Test Report, etc.)
  • Cross-IPT Collaboration
  • Design and develop workstation geometry and layout controls and displays to accommodate the full anthropometric range of expected users.    


Basic Qualifications:

  • 5 years of experience in Human Factors or an applicable field with a BS Degree, or 3 years of experience with a Master's
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to present to segment, program and customer community
  • Educational background in psychology, human factors, user experience, graphic design, industrial design, or HCI-related field from an accredited university, and at least 5 years of related experience; OR at least 3 Years of relevant experience with a master’s degree; OR a PhD degree
  • Active Secret clearance with an investigation date in the last 6 years; Must have the ability to obtain special program access
