The department is a key part of the firm's corporate governance and the department’s primary objectives are to review the company's control environment and report any weaknesses identified to the Audit Committee and senior management.
The department in the US comprises over 35 professionals, split across Business, Risk, Finance, Operations, Legal & Compliance and IT audit teams reporting functionally to the Global Portfolio Directors of each division and to the Regional Head of Internal Audit for the Americas.
Role description:
The Associate, Finance Data Analytics position is a role within Nomura Internal Audit. It reports to the Regional Portfolio Director responsible for Finance audits and SOX testing. A key aspect of this role is reviewing data structures and developing data analytics to audit the Finance functions more effectively. In addition, the role involves close working relationships with Internal Audit’s Analytics & Digitalization team, which is a team of subject matter experts in analytics and data science developing leading analytical tools for use on audits globally. The role therefore offers potential for career paths within both data analytics and audit disciplines. The Associate will participate in Finance and other audits, as well as supporting other Internal Audit activities including risk assessment, issue remediation validation, continuous monitoring, and auditing. The role involves frequent coordination with members of other Internal Audit teams covering IT, Operations, Global Markets and Investment Banking, Legal & Compliance, and Risk Management.
In this role, the Data Analytics Associate is expected to:
- Bring a data analysis driven approach to Finance and other internal audit reviews by leveraging data analytics on data flows throughout transaction lifecycles, the data transformations involved and the resulting balances or other output.
- Develop data analytics and automated testing to identify internal control weaknesses during internal audit reviews and continuous auditing.
- Review the implementation of data management frameworks.
- Assist with the development and execution of Audit Programs (Risk, Control and Testing Matrices).
- Identify and formulate solutions to issues around financial reporting, management reporting, operations, and data integrity.
- Track implementation of recommended processes and procedures designed to strengthen internal controls.
- Work closely with Internal Audit’s Analytics & Digitalization team to develop new analytical approaches and maintain repositories of data analytics code and knowledge.
- Build relationships with Finance and other personnel to support Internal Audit’s objectives to provide advice on business and control improvements and to monitor risks.
- Assess risks and evaluate the strength and viability of control structures and procedures within Finance and other corporate functions.
- Conduct periodic monitoring of risk areas to identify emerging risks and trends.
- Share information with other Internal Audit team members.
Skills, experience, qualifications and knowledge required:
- The primary skillset required is prior experience of data analysis. The candidate must be able to cite examples of applying data analysis skills and tools in a business or educational context.
- Good understanding of risks associated with data processing and the objectives of data analytics.
- Familiarity with common database structures and working with Technology on data extraction.
- Knowledge of data analytical languages such as Python, SQL, KNIME etc and data visualization tools such as Power BI, Tableau, QlikView, etc.
- Preference is for data analysis experience in the banking and capital markets industry
