We are looking for a Senior Global Tax Director. With global operations spanning multiple jurisdictions, we are seeking a seasoned tax leader to build and oversee our worldwide tax function as we scale. As a Senior Global Tax Director, you’ll be part of a cross-functional team whose mission is to lead IonQ on its journey to build the world’s best quantum computers to solve the world’s most complex problems.
In this role, you'll lead global tax compliance, tax accounting & reporting, strategic tax planning, and M&A tax support. You will manage relationships with outsourced tax service providers and collaborate closely with finance, legal, accounting, and M&A teams to optimize the company’s tax position. This position reports to our VP, Global Controller.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee corporate tax compliance across multiple jurisdictions – including income tax, indirect/VAT/GST, and other pertinent filing obligations
- Lead ASC 740 tax provision preparation and review for quarterly and annual financial statements
- Oversee tax account reconciliations, uncertain tax positions, and SOX controls
- Collaborate with legal, accounting, and business teams to evaluate tax implications of M&A transactions
- Oversee the tax aspects of U.S. GAAP purchase accounting process for acquisitions
- Assist in managing tax risks associated with the company’s changing tax structure
- Assist with ongoing business requirements such as tax forecasting and global audit support
- Manage the global tax calendar and the preparation and filing of local income tax, property tax, and information returns
- Operationalize transfer pricing and manage related intercompany transactions
- Oversee global expatriate compliance, including tax equalization calculations
- Manage tax audits and act as principal point of contact for notifications from tax agencies
- Research the implications of changing tax laws and advise on tax related issues
- Plan, direct, and execute various ad hoc tax projects
- Perform research and prepare/review technical tax memorandum
You’d be a good fit with:
- 15+ years of professional experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- 10+ years of multinational corporate tax experience (including leadership roles)
- Proven track record of managing tax compliance, reporting, and planning through M&A and international expansion
- Expertise in ASC 740 tax accounting, tax software, and tax-related internal controls
- Strong project management and analytical skills
- Excellent oral/written communication; able to explain complex tax technicalities to business leaders
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Bachelor’s in Accounting/Finance; CPA required
You’d be a great fit with:
- 15+ years of relevant professional accounting experience
- Big 4 and corporate tax experience
- Deep understanding of US federal, multistate, and international tax—including Subpart F, GILTI, transfer pricing, VAT/GST, and sales/use tax
- Experience with SaaS and high-growth technology companies preferred
Location: This position can work onsite or hybrid from one of our offices (College Park, MD, Bothell, WA) or fully remote in the US.

The approximate base salary range for this position is $189,659 - $247,322. The total compensation package includes base, bonus, and equity.
Compensation will vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Posted base salary figures are subject to change as new market data becomes available.
