Job Duties

Provides daily coverage as the court and legal receptionist. Responds to high volume of telephone calls from offender family members, institutional, jail personnel, and other agencies in a professional manner. Efficiently and politely responds to telephone inquiries pertaining to time computation. Properly screen calls and assist where applicable or refer to the appropriate parties. Ensure that accurate information is disseminated with sensitivity for the caller’s needs. Expeditiously relay concise messages.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent. Working skills in operating automated equipment. Demonstrated knowledge of offender- based practices. Basic mathematics and calculation skills. Experience in a high volume and fast-paced environment with prior multi- line phone experience. Basic knowledge of the Code of Virginia as it pertains to criminal sentencing. Ability to work independently, analyze, and resolve problems with general guidance from supervision. Ability to adapt to changes in procedures, priorities and the automated system. Establish and maintain effective working relationships inside and outside the work unit. Ability to comprehend and interpret complex laws, legal documents and policies. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

Additional Considerations

Experience in a field related to criminal justice, especially in criminal procedures and records processes may substitute.
