Job Summary

PPL is looking for a talented, people centered person to join our Homeownership and Financial Coaching Team. This team is dedicated to providing services and resources that work to close the racial wealth gap. This position will be responsible for homeownership and financial coaching and providing direct instruction to PPL Participants on financial and asset-building strategies.  Includes assisting participants with financial goal setting, implementation strategies to improve financial stability, connections to lending circles as well as homeownership education.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:  Homeownership Coaching and Education

  • Must have or be willing to obtain (after being hired) or maintain certifications for homebuyer counseling, education, financial coaching, foreclosure prevention, and HUD Housing Counseling Certification. HUD Housing Counseling Certification must be obtained within 90 days of hire as a condition of hiring.
  • Provide homeownership and financial coaching, along with budget and credit workshops, to PPL's employment cohorts, residents, and program participants through classroom instruction and one-on-one guidance.
  • Must be available for weekend and weekday evening shifts to support PPL's homeownership education workshops and community outreach events.
  • Utilize one-on-one coaching methods to build and strengthen relationships and rapport with participants via phone, in-person, video, email, and/or text.
  • Assist participants in developing individual financial goals and action plans, including but not limited to the following activities: budget creation and management, pulling credit and credit counseling, creation of debt management plans, student loan counseling, savings counseling and planning, retirement planning, financial aid assistance, financial product review and attainment, home ownership planning, benefits and income support screening and counseling. Connect Participants with appropriate community agencies and resources as needed.
  • Maintain existing credentials and earn new credentials as required for financial coaching and homeownership services.
  • Maintain timely and accurate data entry and reporting.
  • Research and stay informed on current financial resources and industry trends related to financial empowerment and homeownership.
  • Collaborate with various PPL programs and partner agencies to increase program awareness, promote referrals, and integrate financial service and homeownership activities.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This person will not be responsible for supervision.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Self-starter with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong knowledge of community programs and resources.
  • Experience facilitating or training in workshops related to home buying, financial education or closely related topics.
  • Strong desire and experience in financial literacy and/or asset-building activities with economically disadvantaged populations.
  • Effective in working with staff at all levels of the organization.
  • Effective and professional communication with program participants, co-workers, and external partners.
  • Ability to work independently or as a team member.
  • Reliable transportation or valid driver’s license and good driving record. 

 Education and Experience:

  • A high school diploma/GED is required; a BA/BS in business, finance, housing, human services, adult education, or social work is preferred.
