The Opportunity 
Our team is evolving to meet the needs of our growing global energy infrastructure business. Reporting to the Construction Services ILI Team Lead, the Corrosion Technician acts as lead person engaged in detecting existence, cause and source of pipeline corrosion, and controlling the same.  This position will be based in Sugar Grove, OH. 
 
What you'll do

  • Conduct periodic resistivity and potential surveys on pipelines, compressor stations and storage field facilities to determine corrosive areas and record performance of cathodic protection systems;
  • Assists in analyzing trouble areas and recommend solutions;  Check rectifiers and magnesium anode installations and determine operating efficiency
  • Install interference bonds in cooperation with other companies;
  • Assists in conducting current requirement tests for new ground bed installations;
  • Locate suitable installation; maintain records of operation and maintenance of cathodic protection equipment;
  • Direct installation of magnesium anode ground beds, impressed current ground beds and rectifier installations;
  • Assists instructing employees in leakage and corrosion control procedures;
  • Checks all leakage detection equipment and affects repairs when necessary;
  • Conducts close interval surveys;
  • Detects and conducts the repair of shorted road casings;
  • Identify corrosion issues to be addressed by Engineering Services;
  • Performs various duties such as: checks working conditions of rectifier installations, and all critical bonds;
  • Compiles area leakage summary;
  • Using PC and/or hand-held device, completes Work Orders, enters data into Job Plans, creates new Work Orders, etc. in CMMS;
  • Atmospheric corrosion inspections;
  • Surface preparation and coating application inspection;
  • Identify abnormal conditions;
  • Read alignment sheets and provide mapping details;
  • Provide project management field support;
  • Engage and oversee contractors on corrosion related projects;
  • Pipe inspections, Level 1, 2 & 3;
  • Misc. corrosion test kits (Internal, External Sampling Kits);
  • Internal Corrosion related sampling activities (Liquid sampling, coupon removal./installation);
  • Other tasks as required

 
Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent 
  • Relevant natural gas or energy industry experience (Energy, Natural Gas or Military exp) 
  • 5+ years of relevant work experience
  • Candidate must exhibit a sense of urgency, individual responsibility, and effectively execute tasks in a dynamic environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; Good organizational skill a must;

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to read, comprehend and apply DOT codes and ANSI / ASME standards as appropriate;
  • Able to handle multiple tasks for different people; Able to complete work timely with little supervision;
  • Must demonstrate basic personal computer (PC) skills, and must have the ability to obtain basic skills in using a hand held computer; Must be able to obtain basic skills in using CMMS;
    Ability to recognize and electronically record pipeline anomalies
  • Experience with field Ultrasonic equipment 
  • Experience with wet/dry Mag Particle equipment utilizing AC yokes
  • Experience with hand tools for measurement of anomalies on pipeline
    Experience with the use of Creaform/Pipecheck software and associated Handy Scan units on pipeline
  • Successful completion of Jaeger 1 visual acuity and color blind test
  • Strong computer and communication skills
  • Willing to attend Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced Underground Short Courses and subsequently obtain NACE CP-1 certification;
  • Willing to attend NACE CIP-1 or equivalent coating inspection certification.
