Job Description

Penguin Random House Corporate Bookmaking is seeking a Managing Editor to support the Penguin Random House Christian division, working on the She Reads Truth publishing program. Reporting to the Executive Managing Editor, the Managing Editor will work on a variety of products, including hardcover and trade paperback titles as well assets that are part of the subscription box business.

The Managing Editorial department manages the editorial process of all trade paperback and hardcover books. This role involves overseeing schedules and logistics from manuscript inception to final book files and requires the ability to easily multitask and collaborate with many other departments.

 

Specific responsibilities include:

• Act as the primary point of contact for overall scheduling, communication, and logistics for the imprint’s books, including acting as the key point person for the publisher and the publishing manager of the imprints.

• Liaise with other departments, especially production, interior design, production editorial, and art, as well as publicity, marketing, inventory, sales and operations.

• Work closely with editorial regarding manuscript schedules.

• Collect, enter, and maintain metadata, including ISBNs, categories, specs, prices, on-sale dates, etc. in SAP.

• Create and maintain critical path for monthly subscription offerings.

• Manage, in collaboration with the sales-marketing and metadata teams, the release of metadata to online retailers and catalogues.

• Distribute periodic reports (weekly, monthly, seasonally).

• Perform other related projects or duties as assigned or required by division.

• Lead status and other related meetings.

• Transmit manuscripts and other materials to production editorial, when needed.

• Proofread covers and copyright pages and checks barcodes.

Qualifications

• A minimum of 5 years’ experience in magazine or book publishing is required, preferably in Managing Editorial

• Knowledge of Bible scripture is essential

• Exceptional attention to detail and superb organizational skills

• Comfortable leading large meetings

• Outstanding ability to prioritize in a deadline-driven environment; excellent time management skills and the ability to accommodate quickly shifting schedules and deadlines

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills 

• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively to resolve problems, follow up on and meet challenging deadlines, take initiative, and problem-solve creatively (and help others do the same) 

• A collaborative spirit with great people skills; a team player with the ability to build relationships with other departments

• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat Pro

• Familiarity with the Chicago Manual of Style

• Expertise with FileMaker Pro, Lytho, Asana and SAP a plus

Additional Information

The salary for this position is $77,500 for those who begin on or after August 3rd.  All positions are currently eligible for an annual profit award or bonus, subject to company results.
