About the role

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Promotes safety and working safely throughout the facility to prevent injury to self and co-workers, addressing unsafe conditions & behaviors, Inspects work area daily.
  • Adhering to all Silgan Safety Policies & Standards, Silgan Plastics No Tolerance Policy and Product Defense-Security.
  • Reading and understanding all "Safety Rules" items as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Wearing all Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).  GMP required gear.
  • Contribute to our Product Safety culture, by following the GMP Guidelines and Good Documentation practices.
  • Being aware of all Emergency Exits and knowing procedures for Emergency Evacuation as well as location of Tornado Shelter and Evacuation Assembly Area.
  • Accessing and searching for SDS (Safety Data Sheets) online and how to utilize properly
  • Knowing not to operate any equipment or perform any work without the proper training and authorization to do complete the task safely.  Always following proper LOTO lock out/tag out procedures.
  • Never Remove or Bypass machine guards and NEVER while the machine is in operation.
  • Being cautious and aware of lift trucks and moving equipment.
  • Reporting all injuries or incidents to your supervisor immediately.
  • Fully understanding and supportive of the Safety START card program and knowledgeable in how to complete a Start Card (S Safety,  T Target, A All Personnel and, R Relies on, T Teamwork).
  • Understanding the good housekeeping guidelines in the Employee Handbook.
  • Attend daily 2-6-2 or production meeting according to job title during shift for job assignments, safety updates, and/or specific meetings or training as posted on bulletin boards.
  • Reading and understanding specific information pertaining to your job duties and classification (i.e., Silgan BOM) Specifications, Job Safety Analysis, Work Instructions, Plant Memos, etc.
  • Always asking for help before completing a task or job duty that is unsafe or you are unsure of the proper way to complete.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the Supervisor or Manager.
  • Monitor assigned line(s) for mechanical, quality problems, to help maintain machines are running safely and productively.
  • Perform basic to advanced repairs to blow molding and downstream equipment in a timely manner and to seek assistance promptly for repairs beyond their skill level.
  • Perform assigned standard operating procedures on each line. This includes but is not limited to: activity log reports and bottle quality.
  • Maintaining acceptable production output levels.
  • Contacting the correct level of management in the event that bottles produced fail to meet our customer’s requirements.
  • Keeping scrap at an acceptable level.
  • Follow Machine Operator Job Duties and Guidelines (WIN-00533)
  • When needed taking packer responsibilities
  • Sign daily activity log reports, line clearance start up and shutdown sheets.

EDUCATION:

  • Required:  Must be able to read, write, and speak English
  • Preferred:  High School diploma or GED equivalent.

EXPERIENCE:

Required:

  • Good Communication and motivation skill.
  • Good personal safety, attendance, and job performance record.
  • Both high amounts of quality and quantity of work.
  • Knowledge of plant procedures and equipment use.
  • Extent, to which team member identifies and corrects errors, initiates work activities, assumes responsibility, completes work assignments, meets schedules follows established policies/procedures and anticipates needs.
  • Builds trust by respecting the ideas and contributions of everyone.

Preferred:

  • 2 years material handler experience
  • 3 years blow molding operator/ or working in a blow molding environment.

SKILLS:

Required:

  • Demonstrated ability to motivate and influence team members to work safely.
  • Demonstrated willingness to work well with others within a team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and train effectively.
  • Ability to assess job tasks, and prioritize those tasks when conditions change.
  • Forklift certification.
  • Be mechanically inclined to use ordinary tools (wrenches, socket wrenches, Allen wrenches.

Preferred:

  • Ability to read, write and communicate fluently in English.
  • Ability to follow simple oral and written instructions
  • Able to read fractions on a ruler.
