We are looking for a Senior Technician Breeding to join our Agricultural Solution team in Acampo,CA.

This position will assist the breeder to plan, implement and monitor the operational breeding practices of the watermelon breeding program to ensure the consistent delivery of customer-preferred varieties from our pipeline.

During your time as a Senior Technician Breeding, you will

• Grow and maintain healthy watermelon plants in the greenhouse, net house and/or open field according to a schedule from sowing to seed harvest.
• Understand planting plans and experimental designs for fields, net house and/or greenhouses and assist with accurate transplanting.
• Following the directions of the Breeder and/or Breeding Specialist, coordinate and execute the harvesting of watermelon fruits
• To conduct the extraction and cleaning of watermelon seeds following specific SOP protocols
• Learn and become competent in seed Inventory

• Lead and conduct the tissue sampling of plants for DNA isolation. 

• Execute at the appropriate time and way evaluations for identified phenotypic traits.

• Be proficient at working within the company’s breeding database and related software.

• Keep in the field high standards procedures to ensure the health of the plants in order to be able to get phytosanitary certification.

If you have...

 

• High school diploma and 5 years of applicable experience or Bachelors in Science with 0-3 years of minimum applicable experience.
• IT Skills (competent with file and data management, basic data analysis and interpretation,Microsoft Office software, management systems, databases, spreadsheets).
• California driver’s license; valid USA state driver’s license (required).
• Fluent verbal and written English (required) and Spanish verbal and written skills (preferred).
• Ability to work in hot, cold, wet, humid, dry and/or dusty conditions in greenhouse, net-house and/or open field,comfortable with exposure to watermelon plants and fruits(required).
• Competent performing tasks needing good manual dexterity and prolonged physical activity including lift heavy weight.
• Good attention to detail, analytical and accurate(required).
• Experience in plant breeding or scientific setting (preferred).
