As a Lab Technician I, this position will be supporting the Laboratory of Dr. Dmitry Lyumkis where they will focus on research support related to molecular biology, biochemistry, protein & DNA production, and purification. They will assist with the general maintenance and cleanliness of the lab, preparation of buffers & media, culturing of bacteria/insect/eukaryote cell lines for protein expression, PCR amplification of DNA, plasmid cloning, protein purification, and biochemical reconstitutions & assays. The Lab Technician will work closely alongside a graduate student and/or research assistant who will provide direct supervision. The role involves receiving comprehensive training in various research techniques to offer valuable research support. The Lab Technician will be responsible for conducting experiments designed by the graduate student and ensuring precise execution, documentation, and organization of experimental procedures and outcomes.
The work performed will aid in the personal development of in-depth analysis of situations and data that are subject to various factors. It will also enable to individual to observe the direct supervisor execute independent thinking when selecting methods, techniques, and troubleshooting encountered issues. Work will be overseen by the supervisor(s) until independent work is deemed appropriate.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
- General protein production and purification for no more than two projects.
- Work with different systems for protein production, including mammalian, Insect cell, and E. coli. Utilize different expression protocols, generate recombinant baculovirus, maintain and passage cells in tissue culture environment.
- Use of a variety of equipment for protein purification, including the Akta FPLC, a gradient station, and preparatory cell. Report any malfunctioning equipment or potential safety hazards promptly to the laboratory manager.
- Employ different purification protocols, including size exclusion chromatography, ion exchange chromatography, affinity purification, gradients, and others as per research demands.
- Perform biochemical binding assays, activity assays, evaluating formation of protein complexes.
- Perform various techniques in molecular biology such as: DNA extraction and analysis, western blotting, PCR, gel electrophoresis, cloning, etc.
- Record experimental data accurately and maintain detailed laboratory records. May assist with writing laboratory protocols for experiments developed during their tenure.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment. Follow laboratory policies and procedures, including proper handling and disposal of hazardous materials.
- Assisting with cleanups.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by management.
What we Require
- No professional experience is required.
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or one to three months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
What We Can Offer
