Director, External Scientific Exchange (Targeted Medicine Oncology) 

 

 

 

The Director, External Scientific Exchange is responsible for developing and executing an overarching top thought leader engagement plan, advisory and medical congress engagement to support Bayer Targeted Medicine (TM) Oncology.  Serve as coordinator for the field medical team to provide accurate and scientifically balanced information to Thought Leaders (TLs) and identify new opportunities for engagement to ensure impactful Thought Leader (TL) planning and engagement of the Target Medicine Franchise. Have an understanding of the top 100 TLs across the county, the TL strategy and therapeutic area landscape, and along with the Medical Director(s), Director(s), and/or TA VP, help translate the MA plan into field medical strategies and tactics. Lead coordination and execution of top TL activities for external and internal stakeholders, such as congresses and research proposals, with cross-functional partners (including but not limited to USMA, GMA, Global and US Commercial) to provide best in class TL management. Through collaboration, cross functional partners will recognize the Director, External Scientific Exchange as a partner and resource for US TL engagement strategy.

 

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

The primary responsibilities of this role, Director, External Scientific Exchange (Targeted Medicine Oncology), are to:

 

  • In partnership with regional and local medical and cross functional partners, this role is responsible for defining Bayer’s TM Oncology overarching medical US interaction strategy with Thought Leaders (TLs);
  • Lead development and coordinated engagement with top TLs to ensure optimal, impactful TL management and engagement to support the Targeted Medicine medical brand strategy;
  • Identify and support engagement with rising star and digital TLs;
  • Engage with USMA Medica Directors and MSL Team and providing additional support for top 100 TLs engaging in research, during congresses, and within advisory boards;
  • Provide effective collaboration with cross functional partners, including but not limited to USMA, Global Medical, Global and US commercial, to ensure best in class TL Management;
  • Provide accurate and scientifically balanced information to TLs;
  • Assist Publications Teams (US and Global) on optimal identification of presenters and authors for Bayer external data dissemination;
  • Gain ongoing insight into key TL needs and Bayer’s experience, identifying and manage key issues and opportunities with cross functional partners.  Develop Bayer positions and determine communication, education and advisory role opportunities.

Required Qualifications:

  • Terminal Degree: M.D., PharmD., Ph.D. or other doctorate level degree with relevant Medical Affairs experience;
  • Thought Leader management and/or field medical experience or relevant work experience within healthcare industry;
  • Thorough understanding/prior experience in the Oncology therapeutic area and clinical landscape;
  • Proven track record of success, especially in establishing relationships with top TLs;
  • Prior experience leading KOL strategy;
  • Strong understanding and experience with cross-functional relationships in remote locations;
  • Product launch experience with paradigm changing pharmaceutical products;
  • Strong presentation skills required;
  • Strong oral and written communication skills are required;
  • Willingness to travel 50% or more of the time; 
  • Strong analytical skills, including in-depth knowledge of pharmaceutical industry; TL management;
  • Be able to effectively communicate clinical, value and outcomes assessments to internal and external stakeholders;
  • Manage and meet deadlines while working on multiple parallel projects and shift priorities as needed
  • Strong attention to detail, strategic orientation, proactive outlook, and the ability to lead projects through to completion;
