The Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN) is a not-for-profit membership organization that promotes the health of women and newborns. Our mission is to empower and support nurses caring for women, newborns, and their families through research, education, and advocacy.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Senior Manager, Research and Grants will serve as a nurse leader, nurse scientist, and subject matter expert for AWHONN’s research initiatives. The Sr. Manager has a key role in securing, overseeing, and closing out research and grant funding projects for AWHONN. This person collaborates with internal and external key partners to ensure the successful delivery of grant and research outputs and mentors team members in the grant and research process.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Research and Grant Management
· Approves requests for rental of the AWHONN member list for external research that is aligned to AWHONN’s research initiatives that meet the identified requirements and inclusion criteria.
· Collaborates with the AWHONN Evidence-Based Practice Committee (EBPC) and Research Advisory Panel (RAP) staff liaison to identify and implement best practices in implementation research and identify the needs of members to support professional development.
· Primary grant writer and manages grant writing teams for future funding opportunities.
· Manages and mentors the AWHONN grant teams to ensure high-level grant management practices are maintained including grant processes, IRB management, cyclic reporting, finance, time management of deliverables, facilitating dissemination, and completing close-out reports.
· Ensures grant teams maintain protection of human subject training.
· Collaborates with the AWHONN technology team to determine the availability of appropriate grant management and data collection/analysis software.
· Trains grant team members on the appropriate software.
· Collaborates with the AWHONN sponsorship team, as requested, to identify future partnership potential for impact-centric initiatives.
· Collaborates with AWHONN project director/director/principal investigator to determine personnel and resources needed for new funding opportunities.
· Collaborates with Senior Manager, Licensing, and Intellectual Property to ensure permissions are obtained.
· Collaborates with AWHONN team members and external vendors as needed to ensure project completion.
Nurse Leader
• Serves as an AWHONN nurse liaison to national external partner organizations.
• Keep abreast of current clinical issues and research for continuing professional development and integrate relevant findings and information as applicable for program development.
• Collaborates on the development and management of assigned budgets.
• Collaborates with the Sr. Manager of Library and Archives to ensure cataloging of all existing and future resources.
• Identifies funding sources that align with the strategic goals of AWHONN.
• Collaborates with other departments, when needed, as clinical or product specialists with industry sponsors.
• Collaborates with the nursing team to review programs and products as requested.
Continuing Nursing Education
Nurse Planner:
· Serves as a member of the AWHONN Provider Unit.
· Leads in aspects of planning, implementation, evaluation, and record-keeping of specific AWHONN Nursing Continuing Professional Development (NCPD) activities and products.
· Ensures implementation of all appropriate educational design principles and processes that are consistent with the requirements of the ANCC primary accreditation program.

· Performs other duties as required.
Requirements
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
· Master’s degree in nursing research or Doctorate in nursing (PhD, DNP).
· Current, unencumbered license as a Registered Nurse.
· Current certification in practice and/or role area of focus.
· Minimum of 5 -10 years of related experience in one or more of the specialty areas of obstetric, neonatal, or women’s health.
· Nurse Scientist experience is required.
· Knowledge and experience in conducting research and EBP projects.
· Knowledge of the current American Psychological Association (APA) style.
· Budget development experience preferred.
· Experience in facilitating and participating in groups and committees.
