What this job involves:
As a Project Manager for Retail Construction at JLL, you will lead the successful delivery of retail construction and renovation projects from conception through completion. You'll serve as the primary point of contact for clients, coordinating all aspects of project execution while ensuring quality, timeline, and budget objectives are met. You will manage cross-functional teams including architects, contractors, vendors, and internal stakeholders to deliver projects that meet the unique demands of retail environments. Your expertise will be essential in navigating the complexities of retail construction while maintaining the high standards of excellence that define JLL's reputation in the market.
What your day-to-day will look like:
Develop comprehensive project plans, timelines, and budgets for retail construction initiatives ranging from tenant improvements to full store buildouts
Coordinate with design teams, contractors, and vendors to ensure project specifications align with client requirements and brand standards
Conduct regular site visits to monitor construction progress, quality control, and safety compliance throughout all project phases
Facilitate weekly project meetings with stakeholders to communicate status updates, address challenges, and maintain project momentum
Manage project budgets and track expenses, ensuring costs remain within approved parameters while identifying potential cost-saving opportunities
Review and approve contractor invoices, change orders, and ensure all work meets JLL quality standards and client expectations
Navigate permitting processes and coordinate with local authorities to ensure all regulatory requirements are satisfied
Provide regular project status reports to clients and internal leadership, highlighting milestones achieved and upcoming deliverables
Resolve project issues and conflicts proactively, implementing solutions that keep projects on track and maintain stakeholder satisfaction
Required qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field
Minimum 5 years of project management experience in retail construction, tenant improvements, or commercial construction
Strong understanding of construction processes, building codes, and retail industry requirements
Proficiency in project management software such as Procore, Microsoft Project, or similar platforms
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with ability to manage multiple stakeholders effectively
PMP certification or equivalent project management credential preferred
Experience managing projects ranging from $100K to $5M+ in value
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail and quality control
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and technical documents
Preferred qualifications:
Master's degree in Construction Management, Business Administration, or related field
Experience with major retail chains, shopping centers, or mixed-use developments
Knowledge of sustainable construction practices and LEED certification processes
Previous experience working with national retail brands and understanding of brand standard requirements
Proficiency in construction scheduling software such as Primavera P6 or similar advanced planning tools
Experience with design-build project delivery methods and integrated project delivery approaches
Strong financial acumen with experience in cost estimation, value engineering, and budget optimization
