Senior Robotics Engineer, Maritime
AndurilAbout the role
Anduril Industries is a defense technology company with a mission to transform U.S. and allied military capabilities with advanced technology. By bringing the expertise, technology, and business model of the 21st century’s most innovative companies to the defense industry, Anduril is changing how military systems are designed, built and sold. Anduril’s family of systems is powered by Lattice OS, an AI-powered operating system that turns thousands of data streams into a realtime, 3D command and control center. As the world enters an era of strategic competition, Anduril is committed to bringing cutting-edge autonomy, AI, computer vision, sensor fusion, and networking technology to the military in months, not years.
ABOUT THE TEAM
Anduril is fielding the next generation of Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs) to tackle the extremely challenging industry demands of seabed exploration. Anduril has brought to the market a unique, ultra-long-range, full-ocean-depth platform and a completely refreshed maritime vehicle and flexible manufacturing architecture that scales from "large" to "extra-large" vehicle sizes. Today, Anduril is executing on multi-million-dollar contracts while simultaneously performing Robot-as-a-Service (RaaS) AUV operations.
ABOUT THE JOB
These platforms, including but not limited to, our Extra Large and Large Displacement Un-crewed Undersea Vehicles (Dive-XL and Dive-LD respectively), require a Senior Software Engineer with deep robotics experience to architect and deliver critical systems and sub-systems. In this role, you will work across the entire robotics software stack — from perception and motion planning to state estimation, mapping, and autonomy. You’ll own end to end integration and validation, ensuring that all components work seamlessly together to power our undersea products, including Dive-LD and Copperhead.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Drive integration across the robotics stack, bringing together perception, motion planning, state estimation, and autonomy
- Develop and integrate sensors for perception, enabling advanced mapping and SLAM capabilities
- Contribute to perception, motion planning, state estimation, and autonomy features
- Write production-quality code, primarily in Rust and C++
- Participate in the full software development lifecycle, from concept and design through testing and deployment
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues in deployed systems, ensuring optimal performance in the field
- Navigate dynamic, ambiguous environments
- Travel up to 15% to build, test, and deploy capabilities in the real world
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 5+ years of professional C++ or Rust programming experience in a Linux development environment
- Strong engineering background from industry or school, ideally in areas/fields such as Robotics, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or Physics
- Experience in one or more of the following: sensor integration, tracking and estimation, motion planning, perception, localization, mapping, guidance, navigation and controls, and related system performance metrics
- Proven understanding of data structures, algorithms, concurrency, and code optimization
- Experience troubleshooting and analyzing remotely deployed software systems
- Hands-on experience developing software for embedded and physical devices
- Solid understanding of robotics systems, common interfaces and protocols (gRPC, TCP/IP, RS485, RS232)
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across technical teams
- Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with SLAM
- Experience working on autonomous underwater vehicles
- Familiarity with vehicle management systems such as ArduPilot or PX4
- MS in Robotics, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or Physics
