Description
The Department of Linguistics at Georgetown University invites applications for a two-year postdoctoral position in Applied Linguistics. The appointment will begin in August 2025.
We seek an early career applied linguist with expertise in second language learning, teaching, assessment, or technology-based instruction, along with the use of quantitative or mixed methodological approaches. The successful candidate should have strong evidence or promise of research and publication and ideally a record of successful teaching. Duties include teaching one course a semester, mentoring graduate students, and serving on some departmental committees. Participation in the intellectual life of the department will likely include opportunities for advising and mentoring students at all levels, involvement in reading groups and departmental events, and research collaborations with students and faculty.
Qualifications
Ph.D. in hand by the time of appointment. Candidates must show strong promise of excellence in teaching as well as research. The successful candidate must be able to teach courses in person in Washington, DC.

About the Department
The mission of the Linguistics Department at Georgetown is to contribute knowledge of a diversity of linguistic phenomena through different modes of inquiry. We examine language through its structure, acquisition, use in context, and via computational models. We value the legitimacy and relevance of research at every level of analysis. We house a doctoral program and several master’s programs which are organized into four concentrations, and we offer a major and a minor in linguistics. With all our curricular programs, our faculty and student research, and our service to the field and the community, we provide a foundation of linguistic study built upon a tradition of unique pluralism.
The projected base salary range is $55,000 - $65,000. Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University’s business needs and external factors.
