We are seeking candidates for the position of Assistant Director Transportation (4006) - Bus Operations - Control Center in the Control Center Assistant Directors.

Salary Range: Min: $89,908.00 - Mid: $112,398.00 - Max: $134,888.00 

       

OVERALL DESCRIPTION

Manages and oversees the Bus Control Center. Assumes the duties and responsibilities of the Director of Bus Transportation during their absence.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

Bus Control Center

  1. Uses information available from several sources, computer systems and policies, evaluates service and adjusts as necessary, to re-establish consistent service levels.
  2. Ensures that all policies of the Control Center and the Authority are followed.
  3. Assigns and directs supervisory personnel and emergency/support crews and equipment to maintain or restore scheduled service levels.
  4. Directs and instructs operating personnel in troubleshooting procedures to prevent, reduce or clear delays.
  5. Coordinates with Surface Operations and other departments to ensure required levels of service is maintained.
  6. Coordinates with other SEPTA Divisions/Departments and outside agencies as required.
  7. Directs communications to customers, media and other departments to ensure a well-informed ridership and staff during planned and unplanned service disruptions.
  8. Updates computer and manual reference files, procedures and schedules.
  9. Maintains attendance records and re-certification records for bus control center managers.
  10. Manages to completion and coordinates activities during emergencies and service disruptions. Recommends and implements necessary changes to service.
  11. Complies with all Authority and departmental safety and security policies and procedures as well as all applicable job safety responsibilities.  Reports any safety concerns, compromises or hazards affecting operations, the public, self and/or other employees. Responsible for personal safety and is encouraged to promote the safety of others.
  12. Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Bus Control Center

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, and a minimum of eleven (11) years proven SEPTA Bus Transportation experience with at least two (2) years in a Control Center environment.
  • An equivalent combination of experience and education (i.e., two (2) years of related experience, equating to one (1) year of formal post high school education) may be considered in lieu of the above requirements.
  • Must possess the ability to manage simultaneous responsibilities in a diverse and demanding work environment.
  • Must possess good written and oral communication skills, as well as analytical and people skills.
  • Must possess acceptable attendance record, performance and safety record. A review of employees work record will be part of the interview selection process.
  • Must be able to work day or night shifts, weekends, and/or Holidays.
  • Basic computer knowledge for reports and bus movements is required.
  • Prior City Transit Division experience preferred.
