Head of Precision Medicine Program Management

What you will do

Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. In this vital role you will lead a group of PMs to drive and develop global strategic Precision Medicine Plans for programs within Amgen’s Precision Medicine.

The Director of the Program Management Office (PMO) in Precision Medicine partners with cross-functional stakeholders and manages Sr. PMs across all TAs in Research and Development to drive the creation and effective, consistent completion of high-quality, cross-functional, strategic precision medicine plans for Amgen’s assets. The Director also supports strategic cross-functional initiatives across Precision Medicine and key partner functions internal and external to Amgen.

This role resides within Precision Medicine Strategy & Operations (PMSO) with tight connectivity with Research, Development, Commercialization, Clin. Operations, Medical, Commercial and other internal, external and regional interactions.

  • Leads the establishment and maintenance of a world-class Precision Medicine program management capability
  • Manages team of PMs and Sr. PMs and ensures the development and implementation of project plans and timelines, scenario planning, risk management and communication plans for each asset and above-asset teams
  • Leads cross-functional resource, financial and capacity assessments per TA
  • Ensures effective partnerships/ alliances through driving delivery of Amgen’s obligations per the agreement
  • Recruits, hires, manages and coaches PM staff, incl. establishment of success metrics and KPIs
  • Works with Head of PMSO on other strategic initiatives across the portfolio
  • Partners with Precision Medicine Portfolio Mgmt. & Strategy to develop and track a success metrics / KPIs dashboard

Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree and 4 years of relevant experience

OR

Master’s degree and 8 years of relevant experience

OR

Bachelor’s degree and 10 years of Relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 10+ years industry experience within the Biotechnology, Pharmaceutical, or other Healthcare related field, with advanced understanding of key functions; including, but not limited to, Research, Pre-Clinical, Clinical Development, Manufacturing, Commercial, Regulatory, and Medical Affairs
  • Demonstrated ability in managing and/or leading cross-functional drug development teams and teams of PMs
  • PMP certification and or highly advanced project management skills (Project Management principles, tools and practices)
  • Staff Management and staff development experience: Ability to coach, motivate, and communicate vision/mission, and provide career path and technical advice to PMed SPMs and PMs
  • Proven experience within late-stage research and all phases of development
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills, negotiating skills and relationship management skills and ability to influence behaviors and outcomes in the absence of direct authority.
  • Ability to establish, coach, and motivate a high-performing team
  • High degree of creativity and foresight in anticipating and solving complex program issues
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to clearly and effectively present cross-functionally and at all levels, including Senior and Executive Management information formally and informally
