Hinge Health Hybrid Model:We believe that remote work and in-person work have their own advantages and disadvantages, and we want to be able to leverage the best of both worlds. Some roles which require a greater degree of day-to-day collaboration will benefit from more in-person opportunities. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to be in office 1 day/week (Wednesdays) in hub locations that have an office, and will likely be expanded to 2 days/week in 2024.
About the RoleWe are looking for a Backend Staff Software Engineer to help lead Exercise Therapy Personalization Platform initiatives. This team is developing the recommendation algorithm and building the platform that will drive exercise therapy personalization to maximally benefit our users and keep them working towards their goals. This individual will be coming in at an early stage in the process, with the opportunity to drive success for both member retention and member health outcomes - two key business OKRs as we work towards IPO in 2024.
We enjoy a continuous deployment DevOps culture, and take owner-operator pride in supporting our code in production with an on-call rotation. Rotations vary by team.
Our production systems rely on React Native, React, Node.js, TypeScript, Nestjs, GraphQL, Docker, Rails, AWS, Postgres, Redis, Apollo, and Redux. Our workflow is trunk-based CI/CD, and our security/compliance posture is at the highest standards of healthcare, including HIPAA, HITRUST, SOC 2, and CCPA.

WHAT YOU’LL ACCOMPLISH

  • Every day, you’ll work collaboratively with your teammates and cross-pod neighbors to support our mission.

  • Every month, you’ll tackle your team’s hardest problems.
  • Every quarter, you’ll identify, propose and execute a significant platform-wide upgrade or innovative change to our workflow or tooling.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

  • Environment: At least 8+ years experience developing software in an agile team environment, with experience working with remote or distributed teams.
  • Delivery: Consistent, on time, high quality delivery of architecture upgrades and elegant solutions to knotty features.
  • Domain expertise: Fluent with technologies and techniques to elegantly solve hard problems. Keeps up with trends in adjacent industries and emerging tech. Experience with distributed microservices architecture, relational databases, and building fault-tolerant, distributed systems.
  • Problem Solving: Breaks down large scale projects into loosely coupled subsystems or strategically sequenced milestones. Designs cost-effective solutions, innovates with rapid spikes, avoids “penny wise, pound foolish” trade offs.
  • Communication: Clear, inclusive communication with both teammates and non-technical partners.
  • Leadership: Able to propose major code or best practice upgrades, lead healthy discussions that improve the proposal, and lead adoption from the front. Works within compliance guidelines, represents Hinge Health in conferences and meetups, and makes long-term architecture decisions.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent technical degree or equivalent experience.
  • Experience developing a recommendation or rules engine or algorithm.
