About the role

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and direct underground crews performing installation and maintenance of primary and secondary electrical systems (e.g., manholes, vaults, transformers, and switchgear).
  • Read and interpret electrical utility prints, one-line diagrams, work orders, and as-builts.
  • Plan daily work activities, ensuring proper sequencing of tasks and coordination with traffic control, excavation, and restoration teams.
  • Ensure strict compliance with all electrical safety codes (e.g., NEC, NESC) and utility standards.
  • Conduct daily job briefings, hazard analysis, and enforce safety policies in alignment with OSHA and company protocols.
  • Coordinate inspections and permitting with local agencies and utility company representatives.
  • Monitor and manage field productivity, crew performance, material usage, and equipment needs.
  • Maintain accurate job site documentation including redlines, time sheets, material logs, and daily reports.
  • Provide leadership, mentoring, and training to field personnel.
  • Troubleshoot technical field issues and provide guidance on solutions.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required; vocational or technical training in electrical construction preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in underground electrical utility work, with 2+ years in a supervisory or leadership role.
  • Deep understanding of underground power distribution systems (4kV–35kV), grounding, splicing, and terminations.
  • Familiarity with electric utility company construction standards and specifications.
  • Ability to interpret electrical plans, schematics, and GIS-based mapping systems.
  • Proficient in operating and overseeing excavation equipment, cable pulling rigs, and underground locating tools.
  • Valid driver's license required; CDL and DOT medical card preferred.
  • OSHA 30 certification preferred; First Aid/CPR certification a plus.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

Working Conditions:

  • Field-based work environment with exposure to weather, traffic, and underground conditions.
  • Regular lifting (up to 50 lbs), climbing into vaults/manholes, and standing/walking for extended periods.
  • Overtime, night work, and on-call duty may be required to support outage response or project deadlines.
