CA Pay Range (Annual):
$161,000.00 - $299,000.00At Infinera, your base pay is one part of your total compensation package. Your actual base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. This role may be eligible for equity grants, discretionary bonuses, or commission payments. The amount of these incentives is based on the terms of the Company’s incentive plans, the Company’s financial performance, and/or individual employee job performance.

Staff / Principal Optical Engineer

Job Description:
As an Optical Engineer within Infinera’s optical engineering team, you will be responsible for designing and developing Infinera’s next-generation transceivers. Your key responsibilities include:
Collaborate cross-functionally and cross-organizationally with other engineers on the next generation of INFN’s optical line card, focusing on developing various calibration algorithms, performance optimization routines, and control algorithms. This involves developing and testing different optimization steps from the first prototypes/EVB level to integration into the line card and the manufacturing process.
Translate system and architecture requirements into the line card.
Serve as a technical leader, mentor, and role model for other optical engineers in the department.
Design, develop, and perform design validation tests to verify module function, system performance and ensure quality assurance standards.
Minimum Qualifications:
MS or PhD degree in Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, or a related field.
10+ years of experience in the development and validation of optical communication components such as transmitters, receivers, or transceivers.
5+ years of experience with high-speed coherent optical communication.
Preferred Qualifications:
Deep technical knowledge in coherent optical communication theory, digital signal processing for coherent optical communication (Tx & Rx), control algorithms, and high-speed optical signal generation and detection.
Familiarity with optical communication systems and their linear and nonlinear impairments and tradeoffs.
Familiarity with standard industry design validation processes and product life cycle.
Awareness of state-of-the-art developments and trends in coherent optical communication.
Strong analytical skills.
Experience with programming languages such as Python, VB.NET, or MATLAB.
