About the role

SUMMARY: BankUnited's Technology Data Management team is digitally redefining the Bank with data by enabling teams across the organization to understand how to align their growing data assets across various sources and platforms in order to use it to inform and transform. Enabling this transformation requires the creation, management, sharing and consumption of data in order to generate business value from the Bank's data assets. We're looking for a Data Governance & Enablement Manager to play a significant role in development of the Bank's data strategy and data governance framework. All of which will contribute toward driving efficiency in the overall data value chain (which is the full data lifecycle from collection to analysis and usage). The role will focus on data as an asset (with a focus on ownership, quality and traceability) while helping to identify & prioritize use cases for data which will contribute towards the longer-term technology direction for the Bank's data management and analytics platform. Key areas of focus, responsibility, and contribution will be: Framework Design – You'll be responsible for helping to finalize the design of the Data & Analytics Governance framework to ensure that the Bank achieves a return on its investment. You will work with various line of business stakeholders to drive strong data ownership, enable adoption and governance of the platform and data in general. Governance Implementation – Identifying and implementing the governance framework will be key to your success. You will need to ensure engagement from business and IT partners, work with various business line data analytics teams, and be a champion for data in general. You will support a central data & analytics governance committee or data community who will be key customers and contributors toward establishing the proper governance guardrails for data and self-serve analytics. Develop a Pipeline for Data Analytics Community Use Cases and Ideas – Coordinating across lines of business to develop a pipeline of prioritized use cases for data which focus on the customer outcome or value desired (the "Why") and the data required to bring it to fruition (the "What"). This will then figure prominently toward development of the technologies needed to enable the use case and support it going forward (the "How"). Ongoing Operations – Coordinating with business line data analytics teams and the data community to ensure we are prioritizing key initiatives, new capabilities and supporting meaningful business outcomes. You will monitor and support the adoption of the governance framework by internal and external project teams, as well as data stewards and owners. You will drive the quality and visibility of the data in the platform through adoption and use of tools such as a data catalog. The ideal candidate is a strong programmatic leader, a polished communicator with expertise in a variety of continuous improvement methods, a strong analytical toolset, and experience working cross-functionally to solve problems with product and process changes. They thrive in an ambiguous, fast-paced, and dynamic environment and are excited to help the Bank deliver trusted data as efficiently as possible.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties and special projects may be assigned.
  • Collaborate with key business and IT stakeholders to develop, document, maintain and lead enforcement of data governance policy, framework, and standards.
  • Contribute to and lead a fit for purpose data governance model based on industry best practices to include policies, roles, structure of the Data Governance team and responsibilities of Data Stewards within the program.
  • Help the Bank establish common stewardship practices, policies, and metrics to manage data and analytics consistently across the enterprise
  • Support and implement scalable frameworks, standards and data best practices while upholding integrity and privacy across our data ecosystem and lifecycle
  • Document and implement current workflows, data policies, standards, and procedures for both legacy and new data environments
  • Support the design and curate data dictionaries based on stakeholder requirements
  • Work with teams to ensure complete data lineage is captured and managed for our data of record
  • Perform data quality audits, identify data collection issues, suggest improvements, and help implement fixes
  • Support data governance program adoption and effectiveness across the enterprise, aiding with program metrics and monitoring, program scoping and resource requirements, communication, collaboration, and ideation on improving program efforts
