WGL - EHSS Field Advisor
Washington Gas has an immediate opening for a Field EHSS Advisor to be responsible for supporting the rollout, implementation, and continuous improvement of Environmental, Health, Safety, and Security (EHSS) initiatives across Washington Gas operations.
You Will:
• Assist in the rollout and implementation of safety, environmental, and security programs, including Life Saving Rules, EHS and PSMS Management Systems, and Human Performance principles.
• Conduct regular field visits to Washington Gas job sites and facilities to provide coaching, training, guidance, and advisory support to supervisors and workers on EHSS-related topics.
• Required up to three days a week in Springfield (or other office as determined by Manager) office for meetings, training, and administrative tasks.
• Requires participation in the Safety/Environmental On-Call Responder program(s) 24-hours/day, 7-days/week on a rotating basis.
• Participate in or lead 1-2 safety cascade or toolbox talk (TBT) meetings weekly at job sites or facilities.
• Assist in incident investigations, gathering information, conducting basic root cause analyses, and supporting the implementation of corrective actions to prevent recurrence. Ensure documentation capture in Company database.
• Conduct and document job site observations, JSAs, and hazard assessments to identify risks and recommend practical mitigation strategies. Collaborate with supervisors to ensure safe and secure operations.
• Provide field-level training, toolbox talks, and on-the-job coaching to enhance worker understanding of EHSS principles and compliance requirements. Reinforce safe behaviors and practices.
• Support compliance with OSHA, DOT, PHMSA, state and federal regulatory, and other safety and environmental regulations. Help monitor field-level compliance and assist with audits as needed.
• Provide guidance on environmental practices, including spill response, waste management, and other compliance activities, in coordination with Environmental Specialists.
• Support security-related activities such as site access controls, incident response coordination, and promoting general security awareness, under the guidance of Security Specialists.
• Assist in developing and implementing enterprise-wide corporate security programs and initiatives. Support physical security assessments, access control measures, security equipment testing, and emergency response planning across all facilities.
• Conduct regular inspections of facilities to ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and security standards. Document findings, recommend corrective actions, and follow up on implementation of recommendations.
• Assist in documenting and reporting on EHSS performance metrics, incidents, and corrective actions. Support efforts to identify trends and recommend improvement initiatives.
• Work closely with field supervisors and teams to address EHSS concerns, foster collaboration, and provide timely solutions to operational challenges.
You Have:
• Bachelor's Degree in, occupational health and safety, environmental science, global security and intelligence studies preferred
• 3+ Years experience in EHSS, operational, manufacturing, or construction safety required
• Basic understanding of safety principles, federal/state regulations, industry standards, and risk mitigation techniques.
• Familiarity with incident investigations, hazard assessments, and safety training delivery.
• Knowledge of basic physical security principles and corporate security protocols.
• Experience with facility inspection procedures and documentation.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage effectively at the field level.
• Ability to travel to various field sites and work in operational environments. Position requires daily field visits and a minimum of one day every other week in the Springfield office.
• Commitment to continuous learning and professional development in EHSS disciplines.
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license
• Must possess or be able to obtain the following certifications:
• 40-hour HAZWOPER
• RCRA Hazardous Waste Generator certification identified in Title 40 CFR 262.34, 264.16, 265.16.
• DOT Hazardous Materials Transportation certification identified in Title 49 CFR 172
• Jurisdictional specific erosion and sediment control certifications.
We offer a competitive salary range of $78,000.00 to $113,250.00 per year, commensurate with experience, education, and skills. In addition, we provide a comprehensive benefits package including health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off.
