We’d love to hear from you.</p><p></p><p><strong>Overview</strong></p><p>Arkadium is seeking an exceptional and experienced software engineer to build the best HTML5 game engine to support the development of our award-winning games.</p><p><em>This role is open to candidates based in Portugal and hybrid with occasional in person events. Business hours are 9-18 WEST (UTC+1).</em></p><p></p><p><strong>Responsibilities</strong></p><ul> <li>Work closely with our engine developers to maintain our internal JavaScript-based game engines.</li> <li>Research new third-party tools, libraries, SDKs, and APIs to integrate to our engines.</li> <li>Develop specialized technical knowledge to constantly improve our engines to be best-in-class.</li> <li>Write documentation for engine features and provide technical support for external developers.</li> <li>Be an expert on web technology standards and trends, and actively employ best practices to the codebase.</li> <li>Architect and write scalable/modular code for long-term systems that will be used by multiple clients.</li> </ul><p><strong>Requirements</strong></p><ul> <li>A bachelor’s degree in computer science</li> <li>5+ years of experience developing engines, games, or web applications</li> <li>Experience with PixiJS or similar tech (e.g., Phaser, CreateJS, HTML5 canvas games)</li> <li>Portfolio of published technical projects</li> <li>Strong knowledge of HTML5, JavaScript/TypeScript, NodeJS, and other web-based technologies</li> <li>Strong knowledge of programming fundamentals, game architecture, and math </li> <li>Strong verbal and written communication skills, as role is expected to communicate with external developers</li> <li>Major plus if strong working experience with one or more of the following: Three.js; React Native; Unity and C#; Mobile app development on Android and iOS; Multiplayer networking; Web accessibility; WebAssembly</li> </ul><p><strong>Benefits</strong></p><ul> <li>Competitive compensation with structured performance and career development check-ins</li> <li>Meaningful supplemental health insurance (medical, dental &amp; vision plans)</li> <li>Meal allowance</li> <li>Additional budget for conferences you are interested in</li> <li>Personal development budget to fuel your passions and desire to learn (Arkadians are taking classes in not only Excel and leadership, but also interior design and even swimming!)</li> <li>Time off from Christmas Eve through New Year's Day so we can all enjoy the holidays</li> <li>A unique culture of transparency, true teamwork and fun</li> <li>Summer Fridays: 4 Fridays off throughout the Summer to have more fun in the sun</li> </ul>
