Purpose
Oversee and lead all aspects of the LBJ School's financial, human resources, administrative, building and IT operations. The Assistant Dean serves as an advisor to the Dean and school leadership on financial and human resources strategy, risk management and operational challenges, and the business and administrative operations of the school.
Responsibilities
Advise the Dean regarding School strategy development and execution with finance, HR and administration expertise. Maintain appropriate senior internal and external stakeholder relationships. Work collaboratively with the Dean and senior faculty and staff to develop new School initiatives. Serve as LBJ School focal for all legal and financial matters with the LBJ Foundation. Develop and effectively communicate policies and procedures in areas of responsibility to stakeholders.
Finance: Oversee School accounting and finance activities ensuring both sound controllership and robust financial planning and analyses. Oversee the efficient, compliant and timely delivery of finance services including: i) fiscal policies, accounting and payment processes, finance systems and controls; ii) preparation and presentation of financial analyses, projections and forecasts including School annual budgets and 5 year (DPAC) forecast; and iii) preparation of recurring and ad hoc financial reviews and reports.
Human Resources: Oversee School Human Resources administration to ensure the efficient, compliant and timely delivery of human resources functional services including: i) execute approved faculty and staff hiring and separations and support related decision processes; ii) coordinate goal setting and success measurement processes; iii) advise the Dean on workforce planning and execute approved strategies; conduct related benchmarking; iii) ensure School HR policies and procedures comply with applicable guidance and regulations; iv) provide timely and effective HR training, advice, reporting and communications across School constituencies
Administration: Oversee all aspects of School administration to ensure the efficient, integrated and timely delivery of key functional services including: i) IT, ii) legal/contracts; iii) research administration, iv) building operations and v) administrative support services. Oversee pre- and post-award research administration. Oversee the School IT administration and operations, including system improvements. In collaboration with the Dean, optimize school space allocations and develop renovation plans.
Act as School liaison with functional equivalents, including the Council of University Business Officers (CUBO) and TXAdmin college business officers group.
Other related functions as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or related field. Experience with planning, forecasting, cost and financial analysis, budgetary management, accounting and reporting, and human resources management within a large organization. Ten years of progressively responsible experience in these areas. Demonstrated organizational advancement and collaborative problem solving skills in a complex, fast-paced academic environment. Strong leadership and communication skills.
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
Advanced degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or related field. Familiarity with university functional systems (COGNOS, DEFINE and Workday). Professional demeanor.
Salary Range
$135,000 + depending on qualifications
