40Position Summary
Position performs routine and complex microscopy procedures under the general supervision of the laboratory manager, preparing tissue and related surgical specimens submitted for ultra-structural analysis and has a working knowledge of the transmission electron microscope.Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
Conducts sample preparations for electron microscopy, including tissue fixation, processing, embedding, thick sectioning, and staining techniques for light microscopy, ultra-thin sectioning, and grid preparation, observing specimens under the electron microscope for quality control.
Performs electron microscopy observation and digital and conventional photography procedures.
Performs special electron microscopy procedures in the preparation of whole-tissue specimens, cytology, and hematology specimens and cultured cell samples.
Performs quality controls for all equipment and troubleshoots malfunctioning instrumentation as necessary.
Assists with recording data and tracking instrument usage.
Performs basic laboratory maintenance such as washing glassware, and preparing solutions and replenishing stock solutions as needed.
Recognizes problem situations and participates in problem solving; informs supervisor of unusual situations and requests technical assistance.
Complies with all regulatory and client requirements for testing and documentation.
Assists electron microscopy manager in training and assisting others in use of equipment in the electron microscopy laboratory.
Participates in relevant continuing education; mandatory participation in weekly lab meeting.
Assists laboratory manager with other duties and special projects as needed.
Will also be involved in research projects in the electron microscopy lab and will be encouraged to expand and develop new skills.

$22.78 - $34.21 / HourlyThe salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University.
