Position Summary

Position performs routine and complex microscopy procedures under the general supervision of the laboratory manager, preparing tissue and related surgical specimens submitted for ultra-structural analysis and has a working knowledge of the transmission electron microscope.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

• Conducts sample preparations for electron microscopy, including tissue fixation, processing, embedding, thick sectioning, and staining techniques for light microscopy, ultra-thin sectioning, and grid preparation, observing specimens under the electron microscope for quality control.

• Performs electron microscopy observation and digital and conventional photography procedures.

• Performs special electron microscopy procedures in the preparation of whole-tissue specimens, cytology, and hematology specimens and cultured cell samples.

• Performs quality controls for all equipment and troubleshoots malfunctioning instrumentation as necessary.

• Assists with recording data and tracking instrument usage.

• Performs basic laboratory maintenance such as washing glassware, and preparing solutions and replenishing stock solutions as needed.

• Recognizes problem situations and participates in problem solving; informs supervisor of unusual situations and requests technical assistance.

• Complies with all regulatory and client requirements for testing and documentation.

• Assists electron microscopy manager in training and assisting others in use of equipment in the electron microscopy laboratory.

• Participates in relevant continuing education; mandatory participation in weekly lab meeting.

• Assists laboratory manager with other duties and special projects as needed.

• Will also be involved in research projects in the electron microscopy lab and will be encouraged to expand and develop new skills.

Salary Range

$22.78 - $34.21 / Hourly
