This advertisement is for a Career Service position located at Various Correctional Institutions throughout the state in the Maintenance Unit.
Salary: $60,637.72- $65,356.20 annually
The selected candidate will start at the above listed appointment range depending on Water/ Wastewater Licensure. Refer to the Total Compensation Estimator Tool for a complete compensation estimate to include benefits, retirement, leave and holidays.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:
This working position is responsible for the Water/Wastewater Treatment Plant at a Correctional Institution both in operations and maintenance. This position also instructs inmates in the special skills necessary to operate a Water and/or Wastewater Treatment Plant through an apprentice on-the-job training program designed to develop experience and skills necessary to assume and fulfill the position of Operator of a water or sewer utility.
The incumbent in this position is responsible for, but not limited to:
- Operates and maintains Water Treatment Plant and/or Wastewater Treatment Plant in compliance with the DEP permit and DEP rules and regulations.
- Carries out the preventive maintenance program for both plants. Orders and stocks all chemicals used in the operation process.
- Repairs all breakdowns which can be done at the operator level and troubleshoots other specialized equipment for the utility operation such as compressors, pumps, air blowers, chlorinators, etc.
- Cleans bar screens, grit chamber, settling, and sludge beds as necessary. Collects samples and performs tests including, but not limited to dissolved oxygen, total solids, suspended solids, settle able solids, biological oxygen demands, and acid or alkaline tests.
