About the role

Network Optix (Nx) is a powerhouse in video software development, driven by a mission to empower the creation of intelligent video-based solutions and products capable of converting video into actionable data. Over a decade in the making, the Network Optix Enterprise Video Platform helps innovative organizations rapidly and affordably build world-class, custom-tailored, enterprise-scale video products and solutions.

We have locations in Walnut Creek, CA, Burbank, CA, and Oregon in the USA, and distributed teams around the globe (Taiwan, Australia, France, Spain, and Serbia to name a few). Nx is profitable and actively invests in expanding into new domains. We are growing our teams cross-functionally and across the globe.

As a Site Reliability Engineer (SRE), Kubernetes and Container Orchestration at our company, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the robustness and scalability of our services during a crucial transition period. Currently, we offer free cloud services, but the upcoming shift to a paid model means an increasing demand for reliability, and you will be at the forefront of this transformation. You will implement and own best practices, optimize performance, and bolster our system's resilience, ensuring the best customer experience.

The ideal candidate for this role is an experienced team lead with a strong hands-on approach, a deep understanding of SRE principles, and a proven track record of running production environments.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Spearhead the deployment and optimization of Kubernetes infrastructure, with a particular focus on AWS EKS.
  • Leverage service tracing tools to monitor, analyze, and optimize microservices performance and interactions.
  • Employ Kubernetes networking principles to ensure robust and secure interactions within our infrastructure.
  • Implement and manage Istio for advanced service mesh capabilities, improving the communication and efficiency of microservices.
  • Utilize a range of Kubernetes tools (Helm, Kubectx, Kube-shell, Telepresence, Weave Scope, PowerfulSeal, Ark, Sysdig) for effective cluster management and monitoring.
  • Rapidly respond to unexpected downtimes, implementing detection systems and ensuring timely customer notifications.
  • Review post-mortems and develop solutions to prevent recurrences.
  • Stay at the forefront of SRE practices, tools, and trends, ensuring Network Optix remains an industry leader.

What we’re looking for:

  • Expertise in AWS EKS and deep understanding of Kubernetes orchestration and networking.
  • Proven ability to design and implement Kubernetes networking and microservices architectures.
  • Experience with service mesh technologies like Istio and service tracing tools for enhanced observability.
  • Expertise in managing high-load applications with Kubernetes and developing Helm charts.
  • Deep understanding of microservices architecture and reliable, extensible architecture principles.
  • Strong background in programming and automation (Python, Go, Bash).
  • Commitment to continuous learning and staying updated with the latest industry trends and best practices.

Will be a plus:

  • Knowledge of chaos engineering principles for resilience testing and reliability improvement.
  • Deep understanding of ChatOps practices, integrating chat applications (like Slack, Microsoft Teams) with operational tools for real-time collaboration and automated response.
  • Skills in scripting custom ChatOps commands and automations using Python, Ruby, or similar languages.

What we offer:

  • Competitive Compensation
  • Paid time off
  • Flexible working hours
  • Onsite work in our brand-new comfortable office (if appropriate)
  • Working with top industry experts in our international team
