Job Duties

The Department of Forensic Science is seeking a qualified applicant to function as the Building Operations Supervisor in the Northern Forensic Laboratory building. Duties include the coordination and supervision of all work in this facility related to preventative maintenance; operation, repair or replacement of building systems; and grounds maintenance. The systems involved include HVAC, refrigeration, plumbing, electrical, sprinkler and fire protection, and security. The successful candidate will supervise agency staff and external contractors and serve as the lead worker to accomplish some tasks to provide the services required for reliable and efficient operation of the Northern Laboratory facility. The incumbent will be responsible for implementing and adhering to the Facility On-Call Policy for responding to emergency repair calls and reporting to the laboratory building within one (1) hour, on a 24 hour/7 day a week, rotational basis, and for accomplishing some work during non-routine business hours to minimize disruption to facility operations.

Minimum Qualifications

• Demonstrated knowledge, skill and ability in troubleshooting, maintaining, repairing and replacing one or more mechanical systems including plumbing, HVACR systems; electrical, telecommunications, fire protection and security systems in large commercial facilities
• Considerable experience with large commercial building maintenance practices
• Considerable knowledge of IBC, OSHA, and NFPA, ADA standards and mechanical codes/regulations
• Considerable experience with PC based CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) and BAS (Building Automation System) systems
• Ability to respond to emergency maintenance repairs and safety issues during non-routine business hours in adherence with the departments policy
• Experience in training others on repairing and troubleshooting methods
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, diagrams, specifications and operating manuals
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
• Valid driver’s license or other means of reliable transportation

Additional Considerations

• Certification, or the ability to certify within one year, in the use and handling of refrigerants and a Journeyman’s mechanical card in HVAC or electrical
• Knowledge of state and local agency policies relating to the procurement of goods
• Supervisory experience in the building trades
