Job Description
Position Purpose:
Perform advanced operations and maintenance activities at the water and wastewater treatment facilities in accordance with established procedures. Perform maintenance activities on water distribution and wastewater collection systems, including all related components and appurtenances. Employee is subject to varied work conditions in and outdoors, including noise, fumes, hazardous materials and inclement weather.
Primary Duties/Responsibilities:
- Preventative maintenance of all water and wastewater process machinery and equipment in accordance with manufacturers’ specifications, established schedules and procedures; secure the procurement of materials as required and maintain records as required to accomplish the same.
- Perform manual labor and operate automatic and power-driven equipment including but not limited to trucks, sewer cleaning machines and water line tapping equipment in the maintenance and repair of water distribution and wastewater collection lines, including all related components and appurtenances.
- Repair and replace machinery and equipment including all related components in accordance with manufacturers’ recommendations; perform building and grounds maintenance as assigned.
- Operate backhoe/front-end loader in the maintenance of water distribution and wastewater collection lines, including all related components.
- Account for all assigned materials, tools and equipment; perform maintenance and inspections of the same in accordance with established procedures; maintain records as required to accomplish the same; secure the procurement of materials and supplies as required to perform general and specific job responsibilities.
- Implement and maintain standard maintenance and repair procedures.
- Perform data processing activities; maintain records and reports as required.
- Attend a minimum of 16 hours of continuing education maintenance training annually.
- Respond to emergency call-outs after regular working hours as required
- Inform the Deputy Leader and/or Project Leader of any maintenance issues; cooperate and coordinate work activities as necessary with other system personnel, contractors and general public.
- Perform data processing activities; maintain records and reports as assigned by the Assistant Supervisor.
- Perform other work activities related to specific job responsibilities listed above; operate borough vehicles.
Qualifications
Education/Experience/Background:
- High School Diploma/GED is required.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience as a Maintenance Technician 3 and/or 10 plus years’ experience in the maintenance and operation of water and/or wastewater systems.
- Experience with distribution system operations including leak detection, sounding, service leaks, main breaks, utility mark-outs.
- Experience with metering operations, meter change-outs, transmitter operations/maintenance.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Proven skills in the repair and maintenance of pumps, motors and gear drives.
- Ability to perform manual labor and use shovels, picks and similar equipment used in manual labor operations.
- Ability to use building and grounds maintenance equipment.
- Ability to use power tools, acetylene torches and sand blasting and welding equipment
- Proven skills in the operation of backhoe/front-end loader, trucks and water and wastewater line maintenance equipment utilized in water/sewer system work activities (ie: Jet Truck).
- Proven skills in carpentry, masonry, painting, plumbing, electrical and mechanical repair and construction trades.
- Ability to deal effectively with the public.
- Proven skill in the operation of vehicles and equipment utilized in water/sewer system work activities.
- Skilled in the use and care of tools, machinery and equipment of the electrical and mechanical trades.
