Job Duties

The Chief Operating Officer (COO) acts as a principal assistant to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) in the effective administration, operational, and financial management of all aspects of the facility. The COO serves a member of the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) and collaborates with the CEO and ELT in the overall operations of the hospital, ensuring the effective delivery of services to patients in accordance with the facility’s mission and regulatory requirements. The COO leads the Support Services Departments, to include Physical Plant, Procurement, Information Technology, Food Services, and Environmental Services.

KSA’s and or Competencies required to successfully perform the work (attach Competency Model, if applicable):

Comprehensive knowledge of hospital administration. Ability to analyze operational needs and develop and adhere to an adequate budget. Ability to supervise. Good writing and communication skills for reports, program plans, contracts, public contact, training seminars, etc. Knowledge of State laws and regulations that are applicable to operations to include The Joint Commission and CMS. Knowledge of life safety codes, fire codes, building codes, and facility security procedures. Strong relationship management abilities to achieve results through others using various motivational techniques. Understands the importance of delegation and looks for opportunities to assign responsibility for task accomplishment, while holding people responsible for successful completion of assignments. Ability to handle ambiguity and change while balancing multiple priorities. Gathers key info and data essential to the planning process and analyzes/interprets it to deliver recommendations and create viable solutions that are anchored by expert research and data analysis. Works to build support, remove barriers, and secure the necessary resources to implement change. Excellent at critical thinking and decision making.

Minimum Qualifications

Degree in Business, Management, Accounting, Hospital/Public Administration or equivalent training, coursework or experience required.

Considerable experience in a management or supervisory position in a behavioral health or health care setting required.

Additional Considerations

Advanced degree (MBA, MHA, etc.) preferred.

Experience with budget development and implementation preferred.
