Trout Unlimited (North Idaho, Sandpoint office) seeks two highly motivated individuals to conduct Aquatic Organism Passage (AOP) surveys at road-stream crossings this summer in the Coeur d’Alene and St. Joe River systems in North Idaho. The seasonal positions are Aquatic Organism Passage Field Crew Leader, and Aquatic Organism Passage Intern, based on experience. Primary field duties will include: navigating to predetermined road stream crossings using maps and GPS navigation; collecting qualitative and quantitative data at road culverts, bridges, and other structures, including measuring culvert slope and streambed features using a survey level; measuring stream flow; collecting and entering data into mobile devices (e.g., Survey123 forms); and driving vehicles on poorly maintained roads. Training for AOP assessments will be provided at the start of employment. These positions may require hiking and driving in rugged terrain, could include some multi-day trips with camping, and interaction with landowners. A typical work week will be 40 hours per week. Work will be throughout North Idaho, the closest large city is Coeur d’Alene. Individuals will be expected to find their own housing while not in the field.


Employment dates are from approximately June 1, 2025 to August 31, 2025 (actual dates are negotiable, but the goal is for 12 weeks of employment). Compensation will be from $16 to $19/hr.

Requirements

  

· Enrolled in or have completed a 4-year college degree program in a natural resources field

· Experience working in stream environments

· Ability to operate a survey level and mobile device

· Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to work both independently and collaboratively, take  

    initiative, and ability to supervise others (Crew Lead)

· Ability to problem-solve and think creatively to achieve a conservation mission

· Willingness to travel to field locations daily, including camping on some occasions 

· Valid driver’s license and comfortable driving on unimproved roads

· GIS software and ArcGIS Online experience a plus
