Salary: $4,368 per month (SR-16, Step D)

Examples of duties

The basic objectives of the State's agricultural commodity and marketing programs are to regulate, stabilize and expand produce markets; to facilitate trading and provide for orderly marketing; to improve the quality of agricultural products grown and exported or consumed in Hawaii; to enhance the competitive status of Hawaii-grown products; and to protect the public and industry against misrepresented products or unfair practices.

The Agricultural Commodities Marketing Specialist I receives both formal and on-the-job training as an entry-level inspector, with emphasis on the fundamental procedures, concepts, laws, rules and regulations, work processes and techniques involved in the inspection and certification of the State of Hawaii's agricultural commodities; and performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

To qualify, applicants must meet all of the following requirements:

Legal Authorization to Work:

The State of Hawaii requires all persons seeking employment with the government of the State shall be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.


Education: A bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in agriculture.

Progressively responsible administrative, professional, technical or other analytical work experience which provided knowledge, abilities and skills fully equivalent to those normally acquired in four years of successful study leading to a bachelor's degree in agriculture may be substituted for Education on a year-for-year basis. To be acceptable, the experience must have been of such scope, level and quality as to assure the possession of comparable knowledge, skills and abilities.

Substitutions Allowed: Relevant substitutions as described in the Minimum Qualification Requirements, will apply.

Special Ability - Lifting and Carrying: Some positions may require lifting and carrying objects of varying weights without assistance or with the assistance of another person and/or the use of equipment (e.g., hoisting equipment, hand truck, etc.) for heavier loads, with or without reasonable accommodation.  The immediate vacancy requires the ability to lift/carry objects weighing up to 50 lbs. unassisted and 100 lbs. assisted by another person and/or use of equipment.

Driver's License:  A valid license to drive in the State of Hawaii is required.
